Re: WTH? A Holton 345 with SIX VALVES?

Re: lathe I totally agree. Mine is a Rockwell wood lathe with a metal working tool rest/xy slide thingy that Rockwell offered for them. I’m sure it’s not nearly as accurate as yours but… I had a ferrule that needed to be just a hair bigger. Chucked it up and opened it up just one hair. Perfect fit. S ...

Sacramento, CA to SoCal

Is there anyone driving past Sacramento, CA on their way to SoCal and have room for a tuba case? If so, I'd cover your fuel bill (unless you're pulling a 30 foot travel trailer, in which case I'll make a solid contribution) and can meet you just about anywhere in SoCal. If this might be a ...

Re: Tuba Tuesday: York, E flat tuba, 3 pistons, c.1916

Nice choice of instrument, Mark. Thank you for taking the time to post these every Monday night/Tuesday.

That one was a high/low pitch I believe. The (only) low pitch were about 32” tall.

Thank you again!

Re: Cerveny 681 meets Besson new standard…

I don’t have an answer about the bell swap.

But

I do have a question.

Can you describe your York 714 please (ie number of valves, front or top action, recording or upright bell (diameter?) please? A picture would be quite helpful?

I haven’t heard of a 714, hence my curiosity.

Re: My Willson 3200RZ Repair Thread

There was someone here (or there…) that ordered, received, and shared about some replacement linkages, paddles, etc. from them. To me, they looked nothing like what I had ever seen on any of their instruments I’d ever seen. So, what? I don’t know. A pattern? Just thought it was weird. bort2.0 ???

I’m sorry to ask but are those all frisbees in the background of the third picture? If so, that must be the world’s largest frisbee collection!

I’ve never played an 822 F but I sure would like to. ie not a totally off topic post

I say, run it with what you've got, then when the larger rotor comes, put that on. See which plays better.

Heck keep both of them on!

The real question is:

Forget the tuba, how on earth do you fit in a Miata?

Re: iPad revisited

I have a solution (maybe even THE solution): Wait for it For those that want to use an iPad/tablet/Chomebook, please do so. For those that don't want to use one, please do not. I bought a used iPad pro (larger) that I use for one group that has about 120 pieces that get pulled up in seemingly random ...

Speaking of tympanists…

What about playing near an enthusiastic tympanist and feeling their drum strikes through the air column right up to my lips?

I don't know the dimensions of that horn. Perhaps you could give us the dimensions of your horn so we don't have to go look them up.

Ah, good eye @arpthark , but not good enough

I scribed an old s-arm onto a piece of brass and also made a smaller s-arm to go out to the thumb ‘cylinder’.

Oh, and I put two smaller, more svelte miniball ends on for the linkage since that picture was taken.

Re: Livermore, CA: York Eb $950

I think these little 15” bell Ebs play pretty well, certainly better than the Monsters, but I wouldn’t pay anywhere near that much. This one is high pitch.

Here is mine that is a mash up of high pitch bugle, low pitch bell and King valves and tubing.

When I read about the D crook, I thought of you and the extensions you’ve made.

Mirafone wasn’t the first

Mirafone wasn’t the first to offer crooks to change the key of a tuba (those funky CC to BBb slide thingies). While looking at a 1916-1917 York catalog I see they offered a crook to change their Eb tuba to D (doesn’t say if it’s for their Medium or Monster). I’m sure there were other manufacturers do ...
