Re: WTB Conn Double Bell Euphonium (DBE)

Mr. Shinn, I hope you can find one, sir! At this time, what I have in the way of double-bell euphoniums are; - Buescher Epoch model compensating double-bell, satin/bright silver, upright main/front small bells w/ pristine floral engraving, 4 valves, in gig bag, ready-to-go. In process - Martin 5 ...

Re: Looking for: 4/4 BBb $1500-2000

I have a York 700 BBb tuba, 3 upright .750" valves, 18.5" one-piece upright bell, silver, made 1924. It has a rich and powerful sound. I plan, Lord willing, to have it at my exhibit at the US Army Band Tuba -Euphonium Conference Jan.29-Feb. 1, so at least it will be in the same state. I have the ...

U.S. Army Band TEW 2025 - Who's Going?

As I understand it, the Pershing's Own Band Hall and the Exhibit area are repaired, and the Tuba-Euphonium Workshop 2025 will be back in the normal housing. Last year was challenging, but I'm looking forward to the upcoming Workshop, for a couple of reasons. We're working towards having some quite ...

Re: Schlipf mute fit for MW Model 20

My guess would be that a #5 practice mute would fit the Melton model 20, but bell flare outer diameters and bell throat diameters can differ quite a bit. Chris Hite with Buddy Rogers Music should have Schlipf mutes with him at the Army Band TEW in late January, and the best way to accurately ...

Re: What is it?

I sold one of these (in much better condition) several months ago. The bell was engraved with "Symphony," and it was a French Eb tuba from roughly a century ago that actually played pretty respectably. If the valves/slides/body joints are not leaking, they play well-enough.

Re: something that might (??) improve high range accuracy

I used to have a large tank of Chromic Acid (aka bright dip). After I had an instrument sparkling clean inside and out, I would dip the entire instrument, as well as the cleaned small parts into this solution for a few seconds, and the body & parts would come out with a hazy, bright yellow color on ...

Re: Kanstul Eb F Standard mouthpiece

I accompanied Zig Kanstul and Charles Hargett to the Musikmesse in Frankfurt, Germany, in March of 2010, where Kanstul was introducing his line of York-like 4/4 BBb, CC, and the York monster-like Eb tubas. I carried my Stofer Geib mouthpiece with American shank, and a Rudolf Meinl RM-9 / 7.8 ...

Re: are Stofer Geibs still available?

The Stofer Geib& Air Corps mouthpieces completely sold out several weeks ago. I have approx. 50 buffed, which will be engraved next week, then finish-buffed and sent to Anderson in Elkhart for plating. If you want a special order mouthpiece, ie., with two-tone, silver w/ gold rim & cup, or special ...

Re: "New" Sousaphone from Lee Stofer

I'd like to thank iiipopes for his post. I found this to be a very interesting experiment, exploring what would happen if one tried to re-do a fiberglass sousa to a higher standard. I found several things to be important, and am happy to share these points: - the body-to valveset connection needs to ...

Re: Josef Lidl - two new F-Tuba models

Thank-you for the A-B play-testing of the new Lidl F in M and L configurations. As I understand it, this is mainly a difference in two different leadpipes? I liked the M (smaller leadpipe) version as my personal favorite. Each of the Lidl models, in each key, have their own "flavor" or unique ...

Re: I pulled the 32-inch-tall Holton out (4+1 - 11/16" & 3/4" bore) the other night for a random gig

Joe, you have a great horn there, no matter what anyone else thinks. There's not $5.00 difference, IMHO, between vintage Holtons and Yorks, and the horn sounds great -period. And if you enjoy it, better-yet. I find it interesting that your Holton is so similar to what I've been working on for 10 ...

Re: Schlipf practice mute innards…

I have not seen a single Schlipf tuba mute without what Chris Hite referred to as batting in another thread. The mute is essentially empty inside, but, adhering to the wooden top piece on the inside is about 1/4 " to 1/2" or so of a white, fibrous material, to help arrest resonance and keep it quiet ...

Re: For Sale - Schilpf #11 practice mute

Chris Hite at Buddy Rogers is the point man for Schlipf mutes in the US, but I still have my notes from when I was doing this, and I found a penned-in note in the listing for Kalison large BBb, CC, saying, "including Daryl Smith model CC." There are many bell throat tapers out there, and the portion ...

On March 4, 2024, Eric & I departed the shop at 5:15AM, and drove to Cincinnati, Ohio and delivered my stock of Josef Lidl instruments to Buddy Rogers Music. We signed a transfer document, and entrusted the representation of Josef Lidl instruments to Chris Hite, a longtime colleague and friend, and ...

Re: Lee Stofer Lidl horns

I'll try to answer some questions. The Moldau large leadpipe is nickel-silver. The smaller M (medium) leadpipe is rose brass. They have a tested formula which determines which leadpipe/bell configuration /bell or body alloy works the best, balancing each other. Unless special ordered otherwise, the ...

Sorry to be late to the party, but for those who are curious about MAW rotors, they do exist, and are a good thing! Martin says that I am the first assembler of new tubas to equip my tubas with the MAW 5th rotor, made by Meinlschmidt in Germany. Someone remarked that it resembles a tuba-sized ...

Yes, the Moldau Deluxe LBB784 BBb is one tuba that I'm having difficulty keeping in stock. The Moldau Deluxe and the
LBB701 3/4 BB tuba are presently the two best-sellers. This may be beccause there is nothing else on the market like them.

Very interesting post. . . . Without going into a lot of detail, some of which I don't even have the answers to, I doubt that you will see another new Rudolf Meinl tuba in the US. I have not received a response from the company for some time, so I am not an importer/dealer for Rudolf Meinl any more ...
