This is a hilarious photo. The only real-life answer to the old "What is going on here?" question is that this man has intentionally smashed his fingertip.
Guys, show some respect. The man in the photo is a professional musician. A percussionist. And he is playing the "martillo," an instrument in wide use across all of Latin America. Of course, he is still making the serious mistake of hitting his finger.
