Re: Sellmansberger Orchestra Grand Ultimate is here
I'm probably going email secure link invoices to pay towards the end of this upcoming week. It would be nice if everyone would pay promptly. I would expect to be able to ship them out only a few short days after that, as that's when I expect them to come back from being plated.
If I've counted correctly, as of tonight - Saturday night - there is one not spoken for. I guess I wouldn't mind having one that doesn't have a prototype marking on the back of it, but why would I need it (??). I might as well sell every last one, and run another batch.

Re: Sellmansberger Orchestra Grand Ultimate is here
ALL - of the DOUBLED first run - are spoken for.
Thanks!
I'll be sending out secure links to pay (email) over the upcoming middle-of-the-month weekend.
If anyone cancels (or doesn't pay, and doesn't respond to gentle reminders), I'll post if any become freed back up from this first run.
In the past, I'd been putting Sel'bgr mouthpieces in "coin purse" style rubber pouches.
They're about the lowest cost and - in my view - the BEST (protective/don't take up much more space than a mouthpiece/inexpensive).
Just as with fuel/gas/butter/meat/houses, the (albeit still relatively low) cost of those has doubled, and - well... - I also - just now - ran out of them (quite a few stainless sales these last couple of weeks).
I won't be including them with the introductory-priced first run of the OG Ultimate, but might bite the bullet later and buy a hundred or more (??) for subsequent full-priced sales (as well as re-stocking for the stainless line).
Anyway - if you're like me - you have some not-being-used mouthpiece pouches laying around (generic, as well as originally-came-with-other-fancy-schmancy-mouthpieces ones, etc.) me...?? (again...) I don't use any of those bulky/padded/cordura ones, as they take up too much space in the case.
Thanks!

Re: Sellmansberger Orchestra Grand Ultimate is here
' a bit terse, but here's the last bit of Joan Tower's "Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman #1" (ie. International Women's Day...etc.)
As seen, they had me blowing directly into the effectively sound-absorbing leg-drops (curtains concealing the wings) and - as heard - there's absolutely no reverb, as the venue is far more suited for speeches, presentations, or plays...
...but here's a tiny bit of FatBastard (Miraphone 98 BB-flat 6/4) with the new mouthpiece:
' not much more than misc. loud pitches, but it is what it is...In the rehearsals, I intentionally "hung over" (as would a lead trumpet in a big band) on the final loud "low G" button...but - in the performance - I decided to line it up with everyone's else note length, and - guess what? It really isn't heard, is it?
a couple more low/percussive punches from the same fanfare:

Re: Sellmansberger Orchestra Grand Ultimate is here
I'm going to assume that I'll be getting them in early next week, and I'll probably ask people to be paying this weekend. I hope I'm right, and that people don't get annoyed with me.
Thanks for the enthusiasm. I would love to be packing them up right now, and wish I had control over Anderson and UPS.

Re: Sellmansberger Orchestra Grand Ultimate is here
extra-crappy comparison pic..
OK...I sorta got the OG Ult. nearly centered, at the expensive of centering the Conn-Helleberg 120.
OG-Ult. - left
Conn-Helleberg - right
OG-Ult
- smaller and more rounded rim
- smaller throat
- larger (more bowl-like) cup (but not deeper)
- larger cup diameter (embouchure opening)
- similar to C-H insertion depth (std shank) and exit bore

Re: Sellmansberger Orchestra Grand Ultimate is here
Can't wait to mess around with this one, Joe. I am also quite interested in the other one you are sending me. Looks like I'm going to have a fun Spring this year!

The other one features a particularly-conservative throat opening.the elephant wrote: ↑Fri Mar 14, 2025 9:34 pm Can't wait to mess around with this one, Joe. I am also quite interested in the other one you are sending me. Looks like I'm going to have a fun Spring this year!
You may or may not like the resistance (as it's sorta "cimbasso-tuned"), but - if you see any potential and are "daring" enough to buy something and then drill on it (assuming you may ?? "like" it - but not like the resistance aspect) maybe it could prove to be what you're seeking (if you were to alter the throat)...??

Re: Sellmansberger Orchestra Grand Ultimate is here
Before I email out secure links to pay this weekend, is there anyone who would actually PREFER to mail a paper personal check, bank check, or money order...??
Actually, if that's your preference, a mailed check and (ignored) secure link to pay won't cause me (nor our credit card processor) any problems whatsoever.

Re: Sellmansberger Orchestra Grand Ultimate is here
btw...
"Ultimate" doesn't imply that this is some "super solves-everything mouthpiece" (though I really-REALLY like it), but ONLY refers to the high likelihood that I won't be altering this model anymore...
...ie. just as when I strove to maximize the playing characteristics of the "Helleberg II" style cup (with rim/throat/back-bore changes)...
my "Sellmansberg II": I just am not a huge fan of that cup shape (as are so many others, INCLUDING quite a few of my "betters"), BUT I DO believe that I maximized what it can do...as - now - (OK..."at least for me") I'd not mind using it....A WHOLE BUNCH of people seem to like using the "Helleberg II"-style cup with...
- 3/4 inch bore 6/4 size C tubas
- Swiss-made tubas

Are you implying that my original OG could now be called the Penultimate?

sure, and - to those who were never required to learn that world for a jr. high voc. test - it sounds so much more chic and swank.

Re: Sellmansberger Orchestra Grand Ultimate is here
Did you get an email from me this morning ?
I'm having the secure links sent out tonight...so I FIRST checked - this morning - to make sure everyone's email addresses are correct and aren't so uber-secure that they don't accept emails from new sources...
...and yes, I'm purposely dragging this out, because I would prefer that your payments aren't way-way ahead of you (collective/plural "you") receiving your mouthpieces.
Re: Sellmansberger Orchestra Grand Ultimate is here
I got an email from you at 1:33 EST stating that the payment email is due later in the day . . .
Your mail has never been an issue, but for some reason, some sites refuse to send to my primary email, but simply changing "tadawson" to "tadawson2" works, and nine of the support folks at those sites have had the mental firepower to tell me why . . .

Re: Sellmansberger Orchestra Grand Ultimate is here
As noted, mail from you comes in fine - I just have no way of knowing if/when you send anything from the payment processor. unless you also mail from your personal mail to let me know.
