Stephenville (TX) TubaChristmas
Was held on Dec. 1st at one of the local churches. We had 40 musicians, not bad for a town of 25,000 plus the university. Our youngest player was 12, and the oldest, 93. One of our players drove 200 miles to get here. Unfortunately, the local university (my undergrad alma mater), Tarleton State, dropped the ball this year. When we've had it there, we had 50+ every time. This year, the music dept. was on board, but the maintenance staff who run the buildings declared the university was closed for the holiday and refused. Funny, there was a football game and basketball game on campus, so it wasn't very closed. The music folks have vowed to fight for us next year, as this is a perfect recruiting opportunity. Note the guy on the far right of the 2nd row. He had an entire knit Christmas suit and hat. When he registered, I said, "Santa Claus is here".
