BBflat Miraphone 187

Now I am wondering, never hear much from youse guys about the BBflat Miraphone 187. Why no love for the Miraphone 187?

I like it more than the Miraphone 188. A lot of newer tubas, Miraphone in particular made the 289 and the 496 Hagen. And that's not counting the tuba makers too. It gets overshadowed by its contemporaries. Nice tuba though. I think Chuck Levin's has a 5-valve one in stock.

Ain't nuthin' wrong with a 187, I had one. The only reason I parted ways with it was because I got a 496 Hagen.

One of my university students owned a 187.
I liked it.
I like many things while not necessarily wanting them, though. This was one of those cases.

Not every model that every great manufacturer makes their greatest model, yes?
another example:
The 190-BB - which was reissued several years ago - was a tremendous improvement (as far as intonation and ease of playing) over those issued back in the '60s, but I still wouldn't rate it as wonderful.
Otherwise, Miraphone has a pretty strong history with successful BB-flat models, including recent models..."Hagor...?? Haygen...? Haven...??" ...something or other...
... I even know one guy who waited over a decade to buy one of their (handmade) BB-flat models until they found one they could afford. This was probably one of their most successful models ever - as far as playing characteristics, but it never caught on, being sort of pricey and maybe also sort of funny-looking. I can't remember that bloke's name, right now...

For me, the Miraphone 187 is just about as exciting as the Meinl Weston 25. That's not a put-down, but I'm not sure it's a compliment either. 
The 188 is quite likely my favorite overall tuba, and I thoroughly enjoy the tight wrap and supreme ergonomics. The 187 has more tubing so it requires a larger wrap, and kind of loses that aspect of things. I think they play fine, but I don't remember ever being wowed by a 187 the way I've been wowed by a 188.
I miss having a 188.
