Looking for Sousa King Jr

Post by jjaaviierr »

It’s a long shot I know but maybe someone out there has one that they are sitting on that needs a new home? :teeth:

Just looking for a less heavy sousaphone. My current King 2350 sousa is starting to become uncomfortable.

I met someone who just overhauled their King Cleveland Jr Sousa and really liked the look and feel which is why I am looking for one. Any condition. I am also open to an Olds Jr.

Some of those instruments to which you refer were engraved "Gladiator", so you might look for skinny sousaphones with King-looking valve sections with the Gladiator name.

...Of course, you can do as I did and shop for an actual fiberglass King B flat.. not one of the resin ones that came out towards the end, which weighed quite a bit.
I'm thinking my actual fiberglass King might weigh around 18 lbs. The current brass Kings probably only weigh about 23 lbs. or so, but those made back in the 60s and earlier actually weighed a full 30 lbs... I had a 30-pound King, until recently.

Interesting! Thank you I will look for those. I’ve considered fiberglass in the past but I really like the all brass. My current King sousa is 1950s and yeah its on the heavier side.
