I got a million pictures of the Mississippi Valley State University gigantic marching band of about 300 people, which was the grand finale. My bass trombone buddy - who subs in your orchestra on tenor, lately, Dr. Ed Morse - is one of the faculty members, and he was there in his black suit with some other faculty members walking out of arena just after the band.
One of the times he was up here (he probably told you that I brought his garbage eBay 72H back from the dead, and frankenboned a two-rotor bass trombone for him, as well as giving them viable slides), I strongly suggested to him that he needs to pick up some blue collar skills to fall back on, and - over the past year or more - he's been straightening out the school's sousaphones and other brass instruments, after finding some tools that the school owns and buying some of his own. He's not a trombone slide guy or a bent piston guy yet, but he is coming along. I'm really proud of him.
That 72H is the one that now has a Miraphone rotary valve assembly in it
, because the original was loosey-goosey, and the horn was too schmaltzy. If you remember the two-hour swap over from a single rotor to a double bass trombone thread, that's where the Miraphone rotor assembly came from, it was the one that was pulled to replace it with the two.
I admire Ed for not just pulling out his credit card and buying some $8,000 bucks bass trombone that's probably no better than the ones he has...and he plays both the Conn-Miraphone and the Miraphone-Conn-Jinbao beautifully.
