For sale is my B&S PT4. I am the second owner and have had this horn for a little over two years.
This horn has been my primary pit horn at the Lyric Opera of Chicago since I purchased it. It has the classic Germany rotor sound that one expects from those horns. The horn is in very good condition with a couple of minor dings and scratches that are to be expected with a used tuba. I’ve tried to include pictures of the worst ones. I did have a ding removed from the the third valve tube. The ring from the second valve slide is also currently detached. I have it, I just haven’t had it put back on.
The reason I’m selling: while this horn certainly punches above its weight class, I’ve found myself wanting a little more presence and I’ve purchased a pt6 that fills the role beautifully.
The pitch on the horn is typical of these tubas, but very workable. The third partial tends sharp and the fifth partial is a little flat. I was able to lip everything in tune without much effort. It just takes a little getting used to the slots.
All of the mechanicals on this horn work great. It was recently cleaned and is ready to go. This would be a great starter CC tuba or a great horn for someone looking for a very good 4/4 CC. The horn comes it a red and black cordura Cronkite bag.
The horn is located in the south suburbs of Chicago, but could also be brought up to DePaul for a trial. I won’t ship, but I’m willing to drive a few hours.
Price is $7000 OBO
