My name is Nathan Sobieralski and I am owner of S-Mute, a small business that specializes in forward thinking brass instrument mutes and accessories.
The project I wish to share with you is a removable cork system for tuba mutes based on my removable cork patent. This system will allow you to selectively install "cork assemblies" of varying thickness so you can adjust your (very expensive!) tuba mute for various bell sizes. The "corks" slide on and lock in place securely, and are easily removed by lifting a tab and sliding the cork off.
Below is the first prototype of this system that will be installed on a Dennis Wick aluminum straight mute for testing with various tubas. In the beginning I plan to offer these in customer specified heights to suit various mute/tuba combinations. Users would install them on their mute using a pre installed double stick adhesive. Please excuse the roughness of their appearance (particularly the foam rubber gripping surface) I will likely settle on some other suppler for foam rubber and have a better/repeatable process for precisely cutting them to shape.
I plan to begin offering these sets in a few weeks after testing is completed, depending on demand. I welcome your thoughts an input on what you see here.
