FS: Various tuba m.p.'s priced to sell!

Post by barry grrr-ero »

Various tuba mouthpieces priced to sell. I will list these roughly from largest to smallest. The cost includes shipping within CONUS. Photos available for serious inquiries. All of these pieces are in good shape, with no major dents or scratches anywhere. I will describe the condition of each m.p. Mouthpieces will be shipped in either a small box (with padding), or in a padded mailer with extra bubble wrap. I’ve had plenty of experience shipping mouthpieces. Best offers will be considered. You can send a PM, but I would prefer you e-mail to barrygrrr@yahoo.com

1. SOLD! - Wessex Chief - $45. I don’t think this m.p. has been played. However, the silver is tarnished on the exterior of the cup, but not tarnished inside. No dents or scratches. The Wessex Chief has a more rounded rim than the old Conn Helleberg Chief.

2. SOLD! - Older Dillon G5B - $35 obo. This is an odd m.p., and I’ll be glad to let this go cheaply. I’m guessing the “G” means Geib, as it is a rather Geib like. However, I feel my Stofer Geib is a much better piece (see below). It’s fairly wide on my face, and the throat bore is on the smaller side. It’s quite tarnished, but still playable. No dents or major scratches. Offers welcomed.

3. Still available! - Denis Wick Heritage style 2.5 CC - $80. I like this mouthpiece and it’s in excellent condition. It’s somewhat based on one of Arnold Jacobs’ mouthpieces. The Denis Wick catalog will give a more detailed description. I would say its dimensions fall between a bigger Helleberg and a Geib. This has a ‘tweener’ shank that I think will work for most every tuba. Tuning between the octaves was really good when I used this one.

4. SOLD! - Chinese knock-off of a Conn Helleberg 7B, American shank - $35. I should probably keep this one. I bought this from Amazon to use briefly on a Besson 983 Eb. I’m using a dense stainless steel Kellyberg on my big “Neptune”, which is identical to this in its dimensions. My Kellyberg has a Euro shank to fit the Neptune. The plating is flawless, although there is a very slight insertion mark.

5. SOLD! - Stofer “Geib”, Euroshank - $95. This was my ‘main squeeze’ for quite a while. If you’re looking for one of these, you know they don’t come inexpensively. They have sort of a pear shaped cup, and the throat bore is a tad smaller than on most contrabass tuba mouthpieces. It’s a very good, ‘all around’ m.p. However, I’ve gone back to being more of a Helleberg type player. The plating is a bit faded on this, but is still good. No scratches or dents, but there is a very evident insertion mark upon the shank.

6. SOLD! - Parduba 73 Double Cup m.p. - $35 obo. This is a novelty. If you’re not familiar with these, they indeed have a ‘double cup’. On your face the m.p. feels wide and comfortable, but the initial cup goes into a narrower funnel until it reaches the throat. I bought this to try on an F cimbasso with only a slight amount of success. It is heavy, so it would make a good paperweight. The plating is a bit worn, and there is a small nick on the outer edge of the rim – nothing that you would feel. It is fun to show people.

7. SOLD! - Shires 2E - $65. I assume the “E” means Euroshank, but I think it’s actually sort of a ‘tweener’ shank. This is a shallower Eb/F type of mouthpiece. This was the m.p. I used the most on my Wessex F cimbasso. It’s in really good shape, but you can see the insertion mark. It has a nice feel to it.

8. SOLD! - Miraphone TU-13 - $45. Old style Miraphone. This is definitely an Eb/F m.p. It’s both a bit narrow, and quite shallow. It’s also known as the “R. Winston Morris” model. I bought this for really high, solo type works, but I just never dug this piece. Maybe it’s just right for you. The plating is in fair shape - just a tad tarnished. No dents or major scratches.

9. Still available! - Bach 32E - $55. I’ll take a big loss on this one, as I paid too much for it. This was another one I bought to try on the F cimbasso. It’s my smallest mouthpiece. It falls somewhere between a small Eb/F tuba m.p., and contrabass trombone/cimbasso mouthpiece. The cup does have some depth to it, so it’s not just ‘splatty’ sounding. Maybe this will be right for your cimbasso. It’s in very good condition.

Bump. I still have some nice pieces left for sale, and I'm still inviting best offers. My Wick Heritage 2.5 CC is a good one, as long as you're not going to be blowing fortissimo constantly. The octaves are well in-tune on my Neptune when using this one.
