All Things Swamp

Howdy.

This is a group that's been performing occasionally for the past few years. Back in August, the organ player reached out to me and asked if I'd like to do an album. He runs an organization called the Little Village Foundation which generally tries to help out underrepresented artists or those who lie a bit too far out of the mainstream. The angle for this recording is a little different. The foundation paid all the costs to produce the album and any proceeds from sales/streaming will be donated to the Boys and Girls Club of Silicon Valley.

The New Orleans Nightcrawlers are the band that inspired me to get into this kind of playing, as you can probably tell from the repertoire and our instrumentation. But I certainly don't claim to be anywhere near the tuba player that Matt Perrine is!

Anyway, I hope you guys like it.

Here's a link that will point you to your streaming service of choice:

And here's the first track via YT:

And since this is Tuba Forum, some information that nobody else would care about: I played this session on my 1921 Martin Helicon :tuba:

@Kirley

I believe I like your tune better than the one that one of our trumpet players wrote - linked below (back when we recorded this), but I can't help but notice the similarities...
- recorded on a helicon
- similar tempo and "feel"...

This was the most bizarre session I've even been involved with:
> NOTHING that we recorded was ANYTHING that we had EVER played on a gig or even rehearsed. :bugeyes:
> We jammed 13 (completely new to us) tunes into one recording session.
> EVERY tune was a completely different style (apparently to demonstrate "versatility")...

...CONGRATULATIONS...
That tune sounds GREAT, and - I'm sure ALL of them are equally outstanding !!!

To be clear, that’s not “my” tune. I didn’t compose any of the songs on the album. Many of them are my arrangements, though. Inspired by my favorite NOLA groups: Nightcrawlers, Rebirth, Big Sam, the Meters, etc.

Glad you guys like it, though!
