Some recent finds:

1. Yeah, it's nickel (as @bloke opined). In daylight it looked pretty bright, but inside I can see that it's darker, and it feels harder than silver. I also see a few spots where it is flaking with a bit of a sharp edge as nickel does. And it smells like pocket change. So, that makes me a little less worried about the finish.

2. I mocked up a Miraphone fifth valve setup that may fit, but it'll be very close. The straight part of the leadpipe is going to be down to the quick. It might be necessary to trim some ferrules if I go ahead with this.

3. I really need some more spare Miraphone 183 Eb rotors and tubing, so please send them to me if you have any extras.

Tubas aren't Tinker Toys. You can tease the knuckle coming out of your added rotor off to the right and the knuckle connecting to the angled part of the mouthpipe can tilt off to the right. They did this on those old B&S B-flat tubas, and it didn't cause any pearl-clutching.
