If this is the specific tuba that I think it is, the price is worth it for the workmanship and beauty, but not the intonation. The resto guy would likely agree, as he is the person who opined this.

Again, if it is the specific tuba that I think it is…

I bet it’s quite a looker when the satin silver isn’t tarnished. Still is a looker.

@bloke - Is this your old baby? I am almost positive it is.

I have a “like-hate” relationship with modern satin silver finishes. I wonder why the engraving is offset to one side…

They really wanted to show off to the bass trombonist…?

Holton did some weird stuff, this one that Norm worked on had an engraving that wasn't right on the front.

Also I would agree this is Joe's old horn based on some photos still floating around from the old York Master site.

This one’s pretty extreme.

Maybe Joe fell in love with the engraving and wanted to be able look at it while he played!

I played it on a few jobs before I slicked it out and sold it. The lower f isn't bad - and no, I did not play it with 1&3, and the upper one is a bit high as they tend to be on these tubas, as I recall... I guess that was sort of the same reason that I only owned a pt6 C tuba for a short time. The upper open F (or G) on a whole bunch of contrabass tubas tends a bit high - including the two that I currently own, but it needs to not be epic, and able to be favored at or below the proper pitch level.

To be clear, I did fix up this instrument to sell and - at that time - was not planning to make the jump over to being a B-flat player, as I did since then.

I'm pretty sure that two different people owned it for several years each up until this point.

I think Mark's son took that picture. Those are my real eyes - even though some people have said that they are not. That's from staring at tablets for too many years in symphony orchestra rehearsals.

That’s what every Holton 345 wishes it looked like. What a beaut!
