Small European Shank Mouthpiece

Post by Balto »

Looking to possibly buy a small euro shank mouthpiece for a Holton Medium Eb, a holton mouthpiece or a denis wick would be nice, but I’m looking for anything

Denis Wick still makes the smaller shank in their "No Letter" models as stock items. The most common size for an Eb tuba is a Wick 3.

I’ve been considering getting a Wick 4 or 5, I figured the 3 may be too big. But also, I prefer to buy used, so I was testing the waters to see if anyone had anything of the sort to sell to me

There have to be some on the ebays, albeit most listers don't take the time to accurately determine this, (or those that do are more likely to ask what they are worth)

I'll see what i can find later tonight.

Unfortunately everything moderately desirable that I’ve found have been in lots that I either cannot buy separately or is an exorbitant price

Not sure if it helps, but searching ebay.co.uk, there were a couple of Besson Eb Prototypes that, well, were of a "ask seller about international shipping, which seems slightly more likely and safe with a mouthpiece than a full tuba, so they are worth asking about? (asked about the extra cheap one, and got a no to international shipping)

(The one i have not asked about, and the more usual version i have seen, at least in silhouette, and actually like the one or two i have come across before quite a bit)

here you go https://www.kellymouthpieces.com/kmtubasmall/index.asp

Lexan in small shank is only $45. They also offer traditional plated brass and even a stainless steel option including a 2 piece version. The Lexan mouthpieces are cheap enough you can afford to try different versions. They are solid mouthpieces that are copies of some well known mouthpieces. Made in Wisconsin up in Fond du Lac - a lovely area. They are also very light and useful in foul weather outdoor playing as well.

On the site home page you can even find a photo of Wade (who posts here as the elephant) appearing in the photo to be the tuba mafia don with one of his groups. One can only wonder if he will soon be switching allegiances from being a Kelly Artist to that of the much more lucrative Blokepiece Artist?

Seriously though, if a professional player like Wade is willing to use them for paid performances you know they are capable mouthpieces despite being inexpensive.
