Post by Dave Detwiler »

Hi all - I just posted at the Media channel the video version of the article I presented this morning at the East Coast Band Conference, titled, "Sousaphone Milestones in Sousa's Incredible Band." Head over there to check it out - thanks!

Oh, and here's the group of presenters from this morning (I'm third from the left; first on the left is Chuck Ebersole, director of the Ringgold Band, who hosted the conference, and between us is Jari Villanueva, who, among other things, runs the John Philip Sousa Facebook page!):

Played an F. E. Olds 4-valve BBb in high school (late '70s)
Led the USC Trojan Marching Band tuba section (early '80s)
Now playing an F. Schmidt (=VMI) 3301 and goofing around
on a 1925 Pan American Sousaphone and an 1899 Conn tuba!
