This band is one of my regular repair customers.

They don't have school funded private coaching, this is not a wealthy town, I suppose it's become a suburban town, but it didn't used to be and it still doesn't have that flavor, they have an old raggedy band complex and a bunch of old raggedy instruments, but they've got a great band director who is a musician. They don't play perfectly, but - to my ears - they play quite well.
We do the best we can to keep their instruments working.

I've heard bands of experienced adults play this same piece with less accuracy. I agree. They sound great.

I remember being a high schooler and playing the euphonium solo for the March. Those G's were so easy in practice but absolutely terrifying on stage. I am pretty sure I fracked it the first go round.

I also remember thinking that Song of the Blacksmith would be so easy if Holst wrote it on the downbeats.
As amateur as they come...I know just enough to be dangerous.

These young musicians did a terrific job. Holst is lovely AND can be more than a little fussy. Thanks for posting this.

Great to see upright bass in a wind ensemble playing the parts it was intended to play.
