CA (CL): Replated King with Holton Bell

Nice looking tuba with a weird MTS that reminds me of some of the old Conns.

If it's solid concrete, you could use one of those glass resin capsules that you put in before the fastener.

Dillon had one a long while back that was set up 4+1 with a bad scotch-brite finish. It also looks like a 2-3 combination fifth valve too.

Re: Gabriel Capet Eb Tuba

I had a silver one in the shop for a little bit from the Eastman display at NERTEC. I did not want it due to being a little heavy on tubas for our store so Baltimore Brass picked it up. I really liked it even in comparison to my older 3400-FA5 Erickson. It has very similar playing characteristics ...

Re: Eb tubas

Reacting to something else that you said, a 15-in bell compensating E-flat may well be the best E-flat alternative for an F tuba, if someone is viewing an E-flat tuba as an F tuba alternative (though I personally never viewed E-flat tubas in that way). Sadly, once John Fletcher stuck a 19-in bell ...

Re: Eb tubas

I've spent a lot of time with the Besson 983, Willson 3400FA-5, Eastman EBE853, and the 3400 Capet. All of them are really nice tubas and there are more good examples then bad in my experience. The Besson, Willson, and Eastman are all pretty good "do-it-all" horns. As in, if I had to own just one ...

I mean it's been based out of the same office for 15 years. They have been threatening this for the better part of that time as well. I worked there for 3.5 years handling government sales and what's left of Jo-Ral.

Saw this one near me, kinda reminds me of a Yamaha YCB-822 with the fifth valve in a different spot. There was also a York on FB that looked awfully similar to this design, so I wonder if that was the instrument that inspired it. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1224987011811928/?ref=search ...

Re: Creative uses for an old gig bag?

I'm being totally serious here I would order 200 gig bags if they would make them in a couple different unique sizes and allow me to put a stencil name on them. I wonder what the minimum order it would take to get their attention? Honestly, they do OEM work for a lot of companies. I've got no clue ...

Re: Creative uses for an old gig bag?

The issue is it seems to be a shame to simply throw out the old case. That's a large case, a lot of garbage, and it probably has use somewhere else. I just couldn't trust putting a 30+ pound horn in it, when it's definitely the reason the seams are opening up. Look up a textile recycling place or ...

Re: remarkably well-assembled frankentubas Holton E-flat and York 4/4 C

Are these Matt Walters builds? Those have some hallmarks of Martin Wilk's builds, but I'm not 100% certain. Martin really likes to make the leadpipe detachable from the valve body like on that York. A good example of something that we know was built by him is this little Conn that was listed for ...
