Re: What are your favorite pieces for wind band?

My new favorite is First Suite in F by Thim Ritter George
I’m also partial to the American in Paris arrangement by J Krance (I think)

Re: Getting Older

I recently purchased a Lidl LBB 701 that I’m very happy with. 15 pounds is wonderful!

Where can I find a Lidl LBB 701

I’d like to try one. Buddy Rogers (Willis Music) tells me they don’t have any in stock. Thanks

Re: Birth Year Tuba

Not a tuba, but I bought a Kay bass, Chubby Jackson model, with a manufacture date of 1956.

I also have a 1960 186, as rhats close.

I picked up one that was made in 47 or so which predated it being called Chubby Jackson. Of course today it's called that... at least by those who know to call ...

Re: Detachable/Recording bell 186s?

I own a detachable-bell 186. Haven’t played it for many years as it is more or less on permanent loan to a nephew. Anyway…no intonation problems noted. It’s a great horn, no matter which bell you are using.

Do you know the approximate inside diameter of the horn at the ferrule? I'm wondering ...

Honest question, not meant to be snarky: what are you looking for in the new tuba that the Cerveny doesn’t give you?

A friend of mine used to wrap his 1020s York in a bag made of jeweler’s cloth. Seemed to work for him.

Re: Who was your teacher?

Ross Tolbert, MN Orchestra

Although it was Edgar Turrentine, Brass Techniques and psychology of music prof at the U of MN who taught me how to double tongue. He also told me I should have been a trombone player, so there is that.

Re: Deal or no deal? Thinking about a Tiny Tuba !

I have the other version of the Wessex little tuba. Haven’t used it much; don’t know if I ever will. I tried using it for a pep band thing and it was hard to hold and bounced off my chest with every note. I might use it for a couple parades (seated on a flatbed) this summer, and probably use it for ...

Re: Smaller tubas -- under 4/4 size

CONFLICT OF INTEREST:

I really like the JP copy of the Cerveny Arion.

If I hadn't built my compact Holton, I would have bought one of those for myself.... I might have souped it up with a fifth valve (??)

I've never played the original Czech version, so I just don't know how close the copy ...

Re: seems like a lot of money

My favorite mouthpiece of many (hundreds, if not thousands of dollars) is a Blokepoece with a Lexan rim. Got a box full of others downstairs that never see the light of day.
