Re: WTH? A Holton 345 with SIX VALVES?

I am about to be snowed under with playing work and have to set this aside until May. I thought this would be a nice stopping point for the time being. Thank you to the few who follow these projects and pass along occasional words of encouragement. More later… Are you still using it in its five v ...

Re: York 716 Recording Bass

I did the same last night. The wife even said okay. Don't laugh, I was up until 1am figuring out airline flights, rental cars, etc. Was a bit worried that I'd get someone at the gate in a less than great mood and trouble so even looked into flying to Michigan, then taking Amtrak on the return leg ...

Thanks for posting a picture of yours, @donn . It does look like that bottom inner bow is different.

Is your 5th valve a useable flat whole step? Like I said, mine is an odd length...

Re: Kanstul 33S

Thanks for the replies. Even now, the MTS almost touches the chair, so yes, lengthening it would mean it goes even farther out. I have some 0.656 tubing and crooks here, maybe I could fashion some sort of loop for it at some point. It's just such a nice looking horn, I really don't want to start ...

All the bows make me think it was someone going for a CC tuba more than an Eb.

I could still use a 2nd slide crook from a St. Pete. Let me know if any of you have one of these!
You've probably seen this, but the 2nd valve slide is available here for the low price of only $75!

The valves look like Reynolds to me, but it looks fairly well put together. Looks about the same size as the King medium Eb I converted to front-action valves.

But that one is not based on the Yamaha 621. It's a similar but different tuba It says it was based on the Yamaha YBB-103, and wasn't the 621 derived from that? To me, the bell profile looks nearly identical. I imagine the bows would be different, since the 103 had the long leadpipe that enters the ...
