NAPBIRT

I was just wondering what you all think of NAPBIRT? Are any of you members? Is it worthwhile or not really? I've known some people who swear by the org, and others who think it's a waste of time and money. Just figured I'd see what you all think.

Re: "We don't repair *that* brand"

It's been my experience that a repad (which should include a cleaning, new pads, and new corks and in the case of wood oiling the body) and a new case is the general recommendation for instruments with pad bugs and it's what I've seen done with used instruments that were purchased for rental stock ...

Re: Allergies in repair

That's a good idea I'll have to look next time I'm at Costco. I was also thinking I might try a face shield to try and bock and compound that flies off the wheel but it might not be as effective for the more powdery buffs. I'll try showering at night as well. A friend who's an auto mechanic ...

Allergies in repair

Hello all, I wanted to ask if anyone has had any allergies or rashes or anything like that while working in the repair shop? How did you deal with it? After spending the past few years working largely on woodwind instruments I was moved to working on brass instruments about two months ago. I've been ...

Re: Piston Questions

Thanks for the input everyone. I have almost no experience with carbon fiber and my experience with titanium is limited to the simpler operations of turning, facing and cutting and tapping threads, but I've been been able to get away with HSS and a good cutting fluid. It hadn't occurred to me that ...

Piston Questions

I've got some questions for you more experienced folks on here. 1) Has anyone here ever tried making their own piston? Mostly I'm curious how feasible it is to make a replacement piston. I see older horns missing parts somewhat frequently and occasionally they're missing a piston or two. I imagine ...
