I totally agree with you on the mystic allure of old horns. However, I dont expect them to be great players. occassionally, maybe. I hope for acceptable players with a really nice sound.

My advice is to try out as many different tubas as you can. It's a huge amount of money if your looking for a newish horn. I prefer old used horns. I was going to say the MW 2145, however I agree with the other person about it having a definite volume threshold. The 2155 would be better suited for the large orchestral works . But might be a bit unwieldy for chamber stuff.

I dont think the york will become a dust collector. Maybe a little, but I bet you'll find places to use it more frequently as you get more comfortable with it.
