Gnagey

I see a lot of horns labeled as Gnagey here. I'm unfamiliar with the background. Please educate me.

Light sandblast??? Then relacquer??? I dont know. Otherwise leave it as it is. I love the sleeper car idea. Looks like trash, destroy the competition!

Re: My new / old Eb tuba adventure.

It's on pause for a bit. Marching band competition season is in full swing with my kids and I have some house projects that need to get done before the snow flies.

Re: Magnets for dent balls

Thank you LeMark for the amazon link. I chose to buy a fishing magnet by that brand. It is a 250lb pull with a threaded eye that i intend to turn into a handle. The pull is perfect for dent balls.

Re: Mouthpiece to lead pipe gap?

I have heard several tuba players mention "the gap" both here and out in person. I personally have never investigated it. I have always just done the best I can with what I have. However, hearing this trumpet player talk about his recent experience with "the gap" (and bore of the throat) along with ...

Re: Mouthpiece to lead pipe gap?

That is a significant part of the discussion. What caught my attention was the players reaction to the microscopic differences and how hugely an effect they had. It's very interesting.

Mouthpiece to lead pipe gap?

I follow Harrelson trumpets on u toob and recently a career musician posted a video of his visit and purchase there. Highlight of the video is discussion about the huge difference in playability due to the elimination of the said gap. Harrelson engineers and builds their own stuff and has a very ...

Re: Adding fourth valve to three valve Couesnon.

I'm just wondering why your not considering an Eb tuba? Your looking for a 3/4 size horn because of issues of size and weight? The small Eb I'm repairing is like a large euph, only slightly bigger than the parts donor yamaha euph. But it still has the beautiful tuba sound from the small amount of ...

Re: Adding fourth valve to three valve Couesnon.

So, everyone else's points are very valid. However, I'll put this out there and maybe stir the pot a little. If, for instance, you have been playing this horn for years and really love it; then adding a fourth valve may be of great value to you. It would be very expensive to have a shop do this for ...

Thanks for the update. Sorry you didn't get the job. I imagine that competition for full time playing jobs is fierce.

Re: Meistersinger on F

Any news on the results of your audition?

I would like to hear what the judges thought of it.

Was it a blind audition, behind the curtain style?

I'm just being curious and nosey.

If someone can provide a picture with all necessary dimensions (.0000) for the needed parts, I can inquire about the possibility of producing them.

Re: My new / old Eb tuba adventure.

That crook (and key) are unaltered as they came off a top action Bbb tuba. I personally only use water keys as a vent for pulling the slide. Not necessary in this application as it's the main tuning slide off the lead pipe. The other original slides on this tuba do not have water keys. I may just ...
