Re: Not today

In my attempt to purchase a long distance tuba, i talked with my co-worker who handles all our co shipping. Business/commercial shipping rates are significantly different than residential. He showed me that he can ship a 25lb package to a customer half way across the country for less than $30. I had ...

Re: Convertible tuba posture help

I agree with marching with concert tubas like the brits do if sousas are not available. I did some playing standing up with my old king recording bell tuba last year. I was concerned with the stability of the rings so i bought that neo tech harness. Its like a sling that the bottom bow sits down ...

Re: Stopped by Baltimore Brass Company

When shopping for a horn, it is very important to keep in mind that each instrument is unique. Even within the same model. Just as every person is unique. This includes the persons approach to the horn. Last fall i dug my 1936 king out of storage (of 20 years) and i have to play/ blow it ( hahaha ...

Re: non-political inflation comments

Agreed. Prices go up. People dont have more money. This also applies to businesses. I work in manufacturing, and our work has slowed considerably due to the inflation. Stuff costs more and our customers are buying less. It really sucks. Some of my co workers are already being put on partial lay off ...

Re: Post-Surgery Advice Requested

I think you should focus on recovery before you consider playing again. The last thing you want to do, or the worst thing, is to rush back to playing and cause a severe injury. The playing will return easily once youve recovered. My father in law did that when he had a complicated hernia surgery ...

Re: My Hang-Ups (valves, that is)

I have been in manufacturing for nearly 20 years (not instruments, but all kinds of other things) and generally during the manufacturing process, everything is coated with oils that are designed to stay put to provide an anti oxidation barrier. In most cases, these oils are not washed off by the ...

With all the theft that has been going on in recent years... it seems that it would be un-wise to not utilize this technology... um. And im also guilty of not doing this... yet. Its an extremely good idea.

Re: Old king tuba hard case?

I was just curious. I currently use a "Gig bag" that my mom made for it when i bought it. She was pretty good at sewing. I mean, almost 30 years and it still does the job well enough. Thinking of finding a different option in the next few years. Its getting worn out. Thanks folks. Sent from my SM ...

Old king tuba hard case?

So my old king tuba is a non-detatchable recording bell model, 1936. Im curious if they ever made hard cases for these. The catalogue just mentions cases for the detatchable bell models. It would be a monster of a case so i suspect that they didnt make them. Does anybody here know more about it ...

Re: Question on instrument sales - Scams?

I agree that there seems to be a boom in latin america. If you look for it on u tube there is a lot of marching band, latin/rock fusion, and classical/university stuff going on.

Re: HELP! (Finale Playback Issue)

Im just curious if its still flat if you have it play with a different instrument sound file like marimba or harpsichord? Like maybe you need an updated sound file for playback. Just a thought.

When i was a kid, Louis Armstrong plays W.C.Handy and The Dukes of Dixieland were really inspiring. Not exactly tuba specific, but thats where my ear is.

Food for thought. New Tuba Solo lit?

Its safe to say that years ago there were fewer people in the world including professional Tubists. Yet, many said tubists were very active publishing tuba literature. Currently, there is an overabundance of humans including professional Tubists. So why does it seem as though there is almost nil new ...

Re: should be obvious...??

Not by any means calling myself a professional or a very good tubist; but i enjoy seeing different and challenging music. Sharps and flats included. However, there is one Sousa march that comes up quite often where the opening theme is an absolute nightmare for Cc tuba. Cake on Bb. Sent from my SM ...

I really enjoy jazz/blues and i would like build skills in that arena. Not just baselines, melody and improvisation also. I had been looking for jazz/blues etudes. In my search i read a post where the person said just get a standards book and voila, ready made etudes. Havent dug into it yet. Im also ...
