Re: Leadpipe change?

Well. Very true about operator error, as my chops are quite out of shape. I was pondering this because i have no trouble with these notes on my mienl weston. And i totally forgot that this leadpipe also doubles as the main tuning slide. Otherwise, i agree that this horn is very balanced. It is a won...

Leadpipe change?

So last night i went caroling with some guys. I used my 1936 HNWhite king 1240 tuba. I havent played this horn much in years and i had difficulty getting notes below C1 to come out. I wonder if a larger bore leadpipe would help? Otherwise, this horn sounded great. Aside from being flat due to the ne...

Re: Erie, PA TubaChristmas musings

I was planning on attending the buffalo/wiliamsville event of the same date and time. The conductor was my first tuba teacher. However, at the last minute i changed my mind because it would have been a min 10 hour day for my family. Add to that, i didnt even have our tree up yet. So i elected to sta...

Re: tuba stands and standing/sitting

I usually set my horn on the floor in front of me and stand holding the bell to balance it. However, i typically play an average sized 4/4. I have in the past forgone the standing if there's too little space. Besides, my wife says they cant see me anyway.

Re: Leadpipe angle OR shank bending

I cant remember what it was, but, there was a concert tuba that required 2 bits to play for the performer to position as needed. I just saw one for sale a few months ago. I remember it because if the bits. I dont remember where i saw it. I bet bloke knows what it is. Might be an option.... but i get...

Re: Leadpipe angle OR shank bending

This is what the repair tech did to my mp receiver. It would have looked better if they had bent the leadpipe, but that would have required a lot of additional work and im always on a tight budget. Just too many things to spend money on and never enough money.... i should buy a couple lottery ticket...

Re: Leadpipe angle OR shank bending

So, 20 years ago when i was in college with my face on my horn at least 4 hours a day, i developed severe headaches and neck pain. One day i woke up and my entire body was numb. That was really scary. I went to the dr, then to a chiropractor. They took xrays and concluded that i had a previous neck ...

Re: A 440

I really have never put much stock in "tuning" as in at the begining of a concert or rehearsal. As bloke said, people manipulate thier instruments to " tune" and then go back to thier comfort zone. Also, I find that tuning my Cc tuba to concertmaster Bb or A is absolutely useless...

Current, US tuba manufacturing?

Im sure this has been talked about before, but im new here and my search feature brings up everything except what i search for so.... Are there any manufacturers in the continental US making Tubas? As in starting with base materials and fabricating the entire horn. Not sourcing and importing compone...

Re: Tracking Devices

How about making a holder that would attatch over a brace that would look something like the counterweight on trombones. Make a decorative design on it. Someone not familiar with tubas woukdnt even notice it.

I did play a euph when i was i school and i just plain didnt care for it. Sorry, im not knocking euph or players. It just didnt agree with me. As for the post about top ...

Re: Piston Questions

I have a question about martin wilk pistons, how do tou identify them? As in, i bought a used tuba and the pistons are very nice. Are they really good manufacturer pistons, or aftermarket.... all i see on them looks like a date stamp.
