All joking aside, is there possibly a university nearby( with a tuba prof' ) that may have a mute that can be loaned out?
A complete longshot like Quigley...

Re: How frequent do you see a need for a tuba mute?
I'm just pointing out that if they see what looks like a mute popping in and out of your bell, and you change volume accordingly, can they tell difference. If I remember correctly, the mute is supposed to change the sound not "mute" it. Or was I taught wrong? Sent from my SM-S367VL using T...

Re: What to do with a Conn 28K 4v Eb sousaphone?
Uggh.. future me may be considering switching to Eb entirely because this little one I have is so easy and fun to play. A 4 valve Eb sousa would be perfect. But I'm not there yet... also, I have to work really hard to not be a hoarder.. uggh...!

Re: CHEAP headphones for listening to tuba on phone/laptop
We bought bone conduction headphones for our kids because they had a habit of turning them up too loud. These dont cover your ear and blast sound into it. Instead they use vibrations. They are really comfortable and have fantastic sound. Because they dont cover your ears you can also still hear thin...

Re: 5 Pitches of Tubas
I've been kicking myself hard. Last summer my wife came across an old 2 valve contra in decent shape at a local estate sale for $50. She asked me if I wanted it, I stupidly said no....kick!kick!kick!

Re: 5 Pitches of Tubas
I cant believe I forgot about Contrabass bugle in G! Of course, the corps music I recall was all written in treble clef and all the horns were in G. So it was basically trumpet fingerings and memorization. Never tried reading regular tuba sheetmusic on the G. Or, it should be Gg? Sent from my SM-S36...

Re: 5 Pitches of Tubas
Cc seems to give me trouble, still. Like most people here in the US, I started on Bb. In college I was pushed to switch to Cc and really struggled with the change. Played Cc exclusively for several years. Life pushed me away from playing for about 15 years. Started back up on my Cc. No problems. Las...

Re: Jack Richardson's last personal tuba!
Very cool.
Was he a really tall guy?
By the picture, it looks like a tall tuba and the lead pipe comes straight over rather than dipping down like most of that type. Was it modified for him?

Re: Wrong notes in Community Band
I have found it useful to; when I hear the issue during rehearsal, bring it to the directors attention by asking if there is a misprint in the score/parts. Then they look for it and address the issue without calling anybody out..

Re: Some help and advice!
As for drum corps, my experience was that they are looking for people who are willing to show up and work hard. It is more like an athletic sport. Also very expensive. Tons of fun. Probably the most influential thing of my youth.
