Re: New tubas...

Reflected light can be deceiving. I think you may be reading where the flare is brazed to the stack. Sometimes there is a line all the way around the bell. The bell and stack should be tangent to each other, but that braze line might create an optical illusion to the contrary. That's exactly the sp...

Re: New tubas...

Not in that picture. Beautiful horn. He said his was the 4/4, but it seemed to have a larger diameter bell throat. On this fellows horn it was quite visible. Maybe it was just a minor goof in production... doesn't explain seeing it on other horns as well. The B&S horn was an f, recently acquired...

Re: New tubas...

I first saw this on the eastman tuba. Then as we were playing it was on my mind and I started seeing it on other horns around the room. But not on older horns. Does anyone else notice this? Look for it and tell me I'm not crazy. ....ok, I am crazy, but...

New tubas...

At the tuba christmas event I noticed that several newer tubas of different brands had a very noticeable "angle" where the actual bell was attached to the bell stack in manufacturing. Normally I would think that this was an anomaly, but it was easily visible on multiple horns. I know one w...

Re: avoiding wasting resources

I've been saying that about trains for years! It was absolutely stupid for the US to move away from trains as a continental transit system. We occasionally travel to nearby cities (1-3 hrs drive) for dr visits. Usually make a day of it and try out different restaurants and shopping. Making those tri...

Re: Erie TubaChristmas is in the books!

Other than one moment, I had a great day.

Also, I need to get the large print version of the book. All the half notes look the same as quarter notes in my 30 year old book.

I'm sorry we didn't meet. I didn't mingle a lot.

Re: Weird water collecting

Try turning the horn on its side with the mp where you can blow. Press the valve and blow hard. Hopefully in this position you can push the water through to where it can be emptied. That's my only thought to remedy without fully rotating or modifying the horn.

I agree. The venue and participation are excellent.

The fun was slightly soured for me by one person who was rude and snotty to me.

I'm so sorry about your situation. It really breaks my heart. I really wanted to buy your set but couldnt justify spending the money I dont have extra of when I dont have a group together to play it. Best wishes. Have a nice holiday.

Re: What do you want from a conference?

Im keeping this short. First. I agree with Joe's points. Second. I recently inquired about going to a conference that's nearby.... ---There is no Avenue for non members of the host organization to attend.... ---The fees to attend are really high. My sons horn teacher said that many teachers dont go ...

Re: Does anyone know where I can buy custom finger buttons for a Yamaha YCB-822?

I have seen harrelson trumpets make custom buttons and valve caps for a tuba. He says he has a watchmaker in Germany? Make the inlays. Has only done a couple sets for tuba. Extremely pricey. If you lots of dough, call him. Some of the most amazing machining I have seen. Sent from my SM-S367VL using ...

Re: Method Book Recommendations

I downloaded an old book off IMSLP. Only looked at it a little bit, but it looks like a teach yourself book. I like that it has a lot of tunes to play. Cant beat the price. Also. Rubank is great too. I enjoy them just to keep in shape and switching key horns. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2023112...

Re: My new / old Eb tuba adventure.

As you can see, my solder work is pretty sloppy. I need to go back and clean it up. When I have time I'll go over it with some soapy water and air to find all my leaks. I know my main tuning slide leaks. I think my patches do too. Because when I plugged the holes with my fingers, it played wonderful...

Re: My new / old Eb tuba adventure.

All of the braces on the 3rd valve circuit needed repair. The two up by the valve were there but needed to be re-soldered. The gold one replaced a previous poorly made replacement. Whoever did that repair didn't remove the dent. They just put a longer brace. I was able to improve the dent, not compl...
