Re: First aid for sticky rotary 5th valve?

Root cause -- corrosion around the spindle, which made the repair tech marvel that it had previously moved relatively freely. All cleaned up and working fine, now. I will give this Wessex page a review and try to incorporate these recommendations moving forward. https://us.wessex-tubas.com/blogs/new...

Re: First aid for sticky rotary 5th valve?

THANKS for all for the suggestions. Also .... [quote=bort2.0 post_id=65420 time=1681665848 user_id=87 And most importantly #2, show us the tuba! And where did you get it? I haven't seen a 1292 in years, and they are particularly handsome in lacquer. [/quote] It looks something like this, and is inte...

First aid for sticky rotary 5th valve?

Miraphone New Yorker, reasonably new to me, previous owner used synthetic oil, as am I. 5th rotor worked fine in two Wednesday evening rehearsals, but hardly moves this morning, feels scratchy and very, very stiff, needs a lot of force applied right to the rotor "axle" to rotate it. Oil ap...

Re: Easter

Playing a newly acquired Miraphone 1292 at my own church with a small ensemble (approx a brass quintet + woodwind quintet).
Hence, not a paying gig, but I'm happy to serve!

Re: Sellmansberger Mouthpieces

Send me an email from my signature, and I'll make a nice chart and post it in the businesses forum here when I get back from this gig this weekend. It won't have those contours on Dave's website, but it might have some verbal descriptions that might actually be more helpful. Two new ones are coming...

Re: GPS tuba tracker - revisited

Will the bottom bow metal shield the tracker's Bluetooth or WiFi (whatever they use) and keep them from working (sending out a signal)? Easy to test -- just slide one in without any glue and try it out....

The city is TianJIN, in the district of BAOdi. No kidding.
And according to some obscure photographic evidence, IIRC, UncleBeer has BEEN there, so he should know. :tuba:

Re: Sellmansberger Mouthpieces

Resurrecting an old-ish thread which has some good info. AND to ask -- IS there a site with a catalog or list of all of the options, with a brief description of the various parts? I've found and followed several links in this thread, butI seem to keep finding even MORE variations people are discussi...

Re: YCB-621 CC (or clone) VS Yamaha YEB-381 5V Eb ?

Update: I should be able to answer my own question with a great degree of certainty, sometime next week, courtesy of Tom and Jody at Mack Brass. Thanks to those who provided thoughts so far in this thread. Another update to follow in a week or two.

Cheers!

Re: YCB-621 CC (or clone) VS Yamaha YEB-381 5V Eb ?

Just catching up -- .... Hi Steve!! YCB-621, all "IMHO": * The leadpipe is too large for a small tuba. (maybe too large for a big tuba too) * The tuba has to be approached like a large tuba even though it isn't. * It seems to want a larger mouthpiece * Isn't particularly easy to play due ...

Re: YCB-621 CC (or clone) VS Yamaha YEB-381 5V Eb ?

Marzan solo model --Yes, this is indeed the smaller CC made by Willson. 17in. bell. IIRC a .636-ish bore. It has a nice sound, but needs some alternate fingerings, and some slide pulling -- more than I'm used to. I'm actually considering putting it up for sale, as my other two horns are very much po...

Re: YCB-621 CC (or clone) VS Yamaha YEB-381 5V Eb ?

Thanks for the replies so far. Very insightful. Any other input is most welcome. A whole bunch of biographical background, that you may not care about: I have ended up favoring Eb tuba over the decades for playing in a quintet, a 10 piece brass choir, and other small ensembles. The brass choir alway...

YCB-621 CC (or clone) VS Yamaha YEB-381 5V Eb ?

Just catching up -- the 621 3/4 CC and its clones (especially the Mack Brass 421) have come up in discussions on the forums more recently. I'm especially intrigued by the TU-421, and wonder how closely it would match the playing characteristics and sound of the Yamaha Eb -- and what the differences ...
