Re: I'VE HAD IT!!!

This was found on Lee Stofer's website TubaMeister.com. Link is at the bottom. I'd suggest contacting Mr. Stofer or sending a PM through this forum too. 1910’s vintage Martin Mammoth CC tuba, pre-owned, 4 rotor, owned and played extensively by Jay McAllister. Will be a quite good player, with added p ...

Re: I'VE HAD IT!!!

He's a professional, so he'll be looking for a C instrument only. Amateurs and Germans play B-flat tubas. Well... Outside of a Wilson CC Rotary everyone else already mentioned the alternatives... He could always give a B&S 4097 (pt20) a whirl. Buffet-Crampon USA has a lacquered one that was made at ...

Re: I'VE HAD IT!!!

Martin has made rotary tubas from the factory. Heck they even made a 6/4 top action rotary for someone back in the day too... Baltimore Brass had a 6/4 rotary Conn BBb. The valves where worn though. If B.B. still has it then it definitely needs a valve job. I'm sure it would be a fine tuba once the ...

Re: Played an enormous plethora of tubas in a private collection recently (w/ pics)

Noice, I can only imagine how painful my shoulder (and heck maybe back too) the King Jumbo sousaphone is like... A rotary Conn, cool. I wonder how many rotary models Conn made, seeing as Baltimore Brass had a 6/4 one at one point. Not sure if Baltimore Brass still has that Conn seeing as the valves ...

Re: Suggestions for a Holton "Mammoth" BBb mouthpiece

I personally quite like the RT-48 myself I recommend trying a RT-48 the most. For something smaller I am personally enjoying the RT-82 (bowl shaped) myself. BUT the RT-44 (funnel shaped, well less bowl more pear) might be better for powerful low range playing while retaining high range efficiency. A ...

Small: Miraphone Hagen 494 Medium: Kanstul 33T Large: Miraphone 289 Extra-Large: Miraphone Siegfried 98 A nod towards the Martin tuba sound though, at least for the extra large category. I sold my King 1241 with the upright bell. However, will be keeping the King Pit tuba for life so I can still ...

Tubas with interchangeable bells. From the bottom area where it connects, not where the bell front/Recording bell tuba would.

Re: regardless of monetary value or quantity of instruments, tuba-wise, do you currently own exactly what you wish to ow

Of the tubas that I have actually played, I suppose I'll list the ones that would actually be used. Miraphone 289 BBb: 5/4 BBb for more BASS and OOMPH than a 4/4 CC but still having some definition and sound compared to a 6/4 BBb... A 3+1 Eb . John Packer, Besson, Yamaha, and Miraphone were all nice ...

Re: Name that Tuba

Now that's a neat tuba! Even though it has been mentioned that they sourced the rotory valves, for their tubas, from Europe. To me though, that tuba has a striking resemblance to the King monster and pit rotary tubas. I wonder if that or that manufacturer is what King decided to base their designs ...

Re: Can we all get on board with this, please?

I agree, Tubas/Sousaphone/Helicons/wrap around python looking thingamajigies don't really look like a J anyways. Helps Conn with saving costs via tooling, polishing, quality control etc. I hope Conn passes those savings to its customers and not only to the "top brass." :bow2: But if Conn insists on ...

Re: NEW BBb-Tuba, handmade by Meister Stephan Schmidt from Markneukirchen

I know this is several years old. But, by chance do you Kontrabasstuba or anyone else recall how the other HSM tubas are? The front action piston BBb, Model 20/07, is intriguing. The way that tuba keeps the necessary length to stay in the key of BBb after the valve section like its rotary sibling ...

Re: I sell quite a few silver plated instruments.

Red plastic is pretty nice, and - since I can't afford a red Corvette - as red plastic tuba (particularly one of those St. Pete-like ones) is probably the next best thing. Dick Woodhams finally decided/realized that a plastic oboe (with the same dimensions, the same player, and the same reed ...

Re: Eastman 534 vs the 562

Well there was a reason I mentioned those Eastman models and the B&S GR51 over a Yamaha 641 that I enthusiasticly despise in a rant a while back. But I do think the 534 and 562 (& the GR51) give players/people amazing options of their desired sound, response, etc when sticking with BBb tubas. Well ...

Re: I sell quite a few silver plated instruments.

Well with plastic coated brass, should it be even thicker than 0.002"? This of course assuming that plastic is generally more semi-permbiable than lacquer is? Or do we plastic coat lacquered brass? . Kinda like lacquer on sliver.

Interesting, the exact scenario is probably why King created the Pit tuba model 1281, a 3/4 tuba although wrapped super long and skinny. Best of luck finding a Miraphone 494!

Are you able to remove the padding and use as extra padding with the new one? It would add weight but might be with it? Or maybe cut the case up and use the padding as a seat cushion. 🪑💺

Re: What do YOU think?

Well for the mouthpieces that I am able to instead further (the ones with the small tuba shanks), when I use them, I prefer that they are deeper into the tuba. Never played around with the tubas that feature adjustable receivers though.
