Wade, you could have a tiny version of your avatar engraved inside one "o" or the other in the "Holton" engraving on the bell assuming they are large enough.

the elephant My vote strongly goes to this. Just hold on to the B&S thing for something else, and make your own cross brace for this thing... https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/b04AAOSwL1tfpuTx/s-l500.jpg I like that too. One could probably make a brace out of an old brass belt buckle too. It might...

I'm still looking at putting some sort of "label" on my Holton, but I'm not sure what I want to affix to it after so much of it is MY design (or corrective work). I don't have a "brand" and "Rackley" is a singularly terrible business name. I have goofed around with my ...

@bloke, I'm curious about how effective the extended low register intonation is with the flat half step 5th valve below low F. I suspect it's actually quite decent?? I figure you're missing just one note, low B above pedal B flat. low F = 4th. (good) low E = 4+5. (good) Low Eb = 2+4+5 (probably a bi...

Re: Variations in playing characteristics of instruments
The care and skill of people varies significantly, surely even tuba assemblers.
Every tuba is assembled by hand even if machines or molds are used to manufacture some of the parts.
One person's "dog" is some other person's "gem" (and vice versa).

Re: Old Man Tubas... a list or repository?
As I become yet closer and closer to being an old man, I'd consider any .68x" bore 4/4-ish bodied tuba to be an "old man's tuba". I'm expecting "lesser effort needed" than "results out". * Conn 52j/54j/56j * Getzen G50/Canadian Brass CB50 * Eastman EBC632/EBC832 * ...

Re: Wanting input on Stofer "Air Corps" Geib & Dillon G5 Turner Geib
I've never tried the "Air Corps" version of the Stofer Geib. I wouldn't mind trying it. If I had one, I'd measure it. The original has a 7.9mm throat which some folks will think is efficient and others will find to be too small or constrictive. I assume the "Air Corps" version ha...

Re: POLL: pricing/condition choices for a Yamaha 321 euphonium
Are these still the typical tuba player's euphonium? Did I not regularly see these in the hands of pros whose primary instrument was not the euphonium in past decades?

Ok, you're adding a lot of qualifiers there... But if you posted here WTB Holton 345... How long would you expect to wait on it? Maybe I'm wrong though! They seem to come up for sale often enough. I'm sure if the OP wanted one enough, one could be found without too much trouble. I would have your m...

Re: Cronkite bag strap question
I'm 5 feet 8 inches tall. Pretty average. I use the backpack straps on gig bags. To me, the backpack straps on the larger Cronkite bags are too high on the bag, ie, too close to the bell. When it's a big tuba bag, the bottom of the tuba is so low on my body that my thighs bang against the bottom bow...

hearing aids
So I recently visited an ENT and had a hearing test. It would appear that the lower in pitch a sound is, the better I hear it. As pitch raises, my hearing loss is more pronounced. They tell me that I would be a really good candidate for hearing aids. I'm not excited about this as they are expensive ...
