Re: hearing aids

Yeah, my wife. She thinks I'm missing more than I think I am. She's probably right. I recognize what you are saying. My wife said the same thing. Re acquiring a hearing aid, are you a military veteran with service-connected disability rating? If so, you could get high quality free hearing aids from ...

hearing aids

So I recently visited an ENT and had a hearing test. It would appear that the lower in pitch a sound is, the better I hear it. As pitch raises, my hearing loss is more pronounced. They tell me that I would be a really good candidate for hearing aids. I'm not excited about this as they are expensive ...

Re: POLL: Willson 2900 euphonium finish

are the slides brass?

I would think that silver plate + gold accent bits + raw brass slide tubes peeking out would look weird.

If the slides are nickel silver, I'd think it'd look better.

I'm not a fan of the silver and gold look.

Is that your former Holton?

Edit: Probably not. Mike's was silver.

Re: Mystery Eb(?) tuba

My guess is that's a Conn. The tuba in the picture is not a large one. I have seen a couple "monster" (or maybe "giant"?) Conn Eb tubas with the valves at the same odd angles and the slides and loop in the leadpipe oriented the same way. Granted, the ebay tuba is smaller, but the valve section ...

My tuba is named "bass trombone" merely as an attempt to camouflage my frustrations as a player.

Re: New Alexander Tubas

In 2014, I found myself in California with some free time. I was able to visit one of the Hornguys locations with my trusty tuner.

I played several Miraphones, a Gronitz or two, a Cerveny, and a new Alexander 163 CC. Of what I played that day, I recall preferring the new Alexander.

exactly. Open low not-sharp D, 2nd valve not sharp Db. It does make sense.

Re: 2+3 5th valve on an F tuba?

I often have wished for an ascending valve on an instrument. Tony Clements had Gronitz build him a CC / DD tuba which I think was based on a PCM. He was selling it some time back. Maybe still for sale? IIRC, the bugle was in DD. The 5th valve put it in CC and was set to be an ascending valve. The ...

Consider polishing and painting the slab. Else, tile which looks like hardwood. It’s a basement, expect moisture down there.

Both the 632 and 832 use .687" bore pistons.

The 832 is a 632 reworked to look more like a smaller 836.

Re: Conn Improved Precision mouthpiece measurements

A post of mine I found on the other site. I’ve since sold all of this stuff except the Chief. I have Conn 1, 2, and 3, a set of calipers, and a set of both fractional and letter drill bits, so I measured. The throat measurements are pretty accurate. It's not exactly standard where you're supposed to ...
