Re: New tuba: YCB-623

If I look at the pictures closely, it looks like the second tuning slide might be upward facing.
I think I see a slide on the inner bow right after the main tuning slide which points up.
I think that could have interesting applications depending on the intonation issues that instrument has.

Re: New tuba: YCB-623

The instrument seemed to record well with what I presume to be a cell phone. Has there ever been a YCB-622? I know there was a YFB-622. The choice of model number seems strange. Anyone know what the second tuning slide comment is all about? What was the 622? Also curious about the tuning slide ...

Re: Visit to Horn Stash in Chicago

The King 2341 (any style) and the Miraphone 186 CC (or 188) should be the baseline instruments by which all other contrabass tubas are judged. I wonder how few other models would be purchased if they were A/B'd against these. So is this experience with the old 2341 and old 186 a pretty common ...

Re: Visit to Horn Stash in Chicago

... King 2341 (old style) with detachable upright bell -- holy crap, this thing can play. Monster of a low range, jeez, where did that come from! I think it's top heavy to hold and simply just heavy, but a wonderful tuba. Miraphone 186 BBb recording bell -- this one, too! Holy crap! Plays so nicely ...

Re: My Meinl-Weston 182 Project

lol at "half-fast". Going to re-use that. There was a very short lived Comcast internet commercial a few years ago, with a family or turtles, who were complaining about their half-fast internet service. Again... Didn't last long. Wonder if the FCC had something to say about it! one of these ...

That was the 2182, a different tuba than the 182.

Are you wanting a British Eb shank or an American shank?

I don't have either for sale, it just wasn't crystal clear to me which you are looking for.

Re: playing and hearing aids

I don't know what those $250 things are, that are advertised on TV... I would have to assume they are crap, but they claim they are actual hearing aids and not just amplifiers. If they are better than nothing, that's not a tremendous amount of money to spend until something that works somewhat ...

Re: playing and hearing aids

... I have been advised to get hearing aids, but have decided to wait because my insurance company has seemingly declared war on price gouging by a particular class of providers, and they haven't quite set their policies on over-the-counter hearing aid pricing and reimbursements. I hear well enough ...

Re: playing and hearing aids

There are lots of different types of hearing loss. I expect mine is actually hereditary. I don't recall knowing my father or his father when they did not have hearing aids. My father was actually legally deaf at one time. He had surgery to replace some of the bones in his ears (or something like ...

Re: Eb tuba and Canada

I've noticed over the years that I've seen a number of Eb tubas for sale located in Canada, really more than I'd expect when compared to the US. I'm not 100% certain that my impression is even correct or if I just notice Eb tubas for sale more than others. I was wondering if there's a particular Eb ...

Re: Talk me into or out of uShip

Is this uShip thing a community run thing, or backed by a company?

If backed by a company, wouldn't the company be responsible for theft, damage, or loss? It'd be better business for them to carry insurance to cover that to inspire customer confidence. If they don't, I don't think I'd bother.
