Re: Miraphone bags

I've been trying to get retail type people to convince protec to expand the line of their platinum line bag to include more sizes. Good quality and affordable I got my first ProTec Platinum bag at the last TUSAB conference, and I really like it's improvements over the older line. It opens all the ...

Re: The most mediocre tuba section

I think those of us who "can't not proofread" give ourselves more stress than we need. Agreed! It is a tough condition. I had countless teachers come to me over the years asking me to proof their displays and bulletin boards before the boss came by. I'm just the music teacher, not the English guy ...

Re: What do you think of the Mirafone 184 small BBb?...

I never played a 184, but I prize my 1972 186 Mirafone. They look almost exactly the same as far as position of the slides, tall bell, etc. Does anyone have a side-by-side photo of a 184 next to a 186?

Re: known, yet-under-known and under-rated players

Kent Eshelman. Teaches at Baylor, monster player, but nobody ever talks about him because he isn't into self promotion Neat factoid about Kent: He’s from a family of tuba players. His dad and sister both play tuba! :tuba: One of the most unusual and skillful things I ever heard was Eshelman at a T ...

Re: Army workshop 2024

You missed a really good and evening today. Variety best describes it! The Swamp Rock concert tonight was really excellent. Exhibits open at noon on Friday. Day activities are down the road about a quarter mile from Brucker, at the Patton officers club. Good lineup tomorrow. The evening concert ...

There's one in the PX, about a 5 min walk from Spates. At least that's what Google Maps says
So, it's back to the bowling alley! Nice having wheels!

Looks like the final, updated schedule is out and it looks like a good one.

My personal favorites--Carol Jansch and David Zerkel-- are both presenting master classes and also featured soloists Friday and Saturday night.

I'm told this one is a 4 valve, not a 5. It is also a used model, so it may be discontinued?

Anyone familiar with a St. Petersburg 206-L 4-valve EEb tuba?

In my quest to go all Eb, I may have a chance to try one of these, but I have never played one, nor have I known anyone who did, either.
I can find only a new one listed at Tuba Exchange, but that is 5-valve. build? Intonation? Sound, etc?
Any thoughts?

Re: U.S. Army Band Tuba-Euphonium Workshop Location Change

We ran into the problem of using the exchange several years ago. They needed military ID, if I recall, before we could buy anything. The bowling alley is about the only game in town for civilians. Or, has that changed? We'll make it work. :wall:

Re: U.S. Army Band Tuba-Euphonium Workshop Location Change

Thanks, Marc, for the FYI. I appreciate the work you all have put in finding alternate sites. Just a couple questions: 1-Is there a place to eat lunch within short walking distance from Rosenthal and Patton? Or, will we need to drive to the bowling alley? 2-Will there be enough parking near either ...

Re: Looking for concert band music.

Chatfield is a lending library and I believe there is a nominal fee to use their resources. Look around their site for how to join. I've not used it, but the bandmaster of a former band of mine used it extensively.
There might be another possibility: let me look into it and get back to you.
