Re: FS: Willson Euphonium and Gig Bag

[/quote] As for playability, do you mean at pitch on all of these instruments? So Eb and CC were easier than on euph? I wonder if it's just the horn you're most comfortable on? I haven't played a euphonium since mine was stolen, and I feel like I'd be competition ready in a couple weeks on any solo ...

Re: FS: Willson Euphonium and Gig Bag

Man...if I lived closer...AND had the bread. My 2900S was stolen like 8 years ago. When I got the insurance check, I decided it was better to put the money toward more sensible things (like rent, which I was struggling with at the time), and it forced me to really take tuba more seriously. I had ...

Re: Are some tubas just better (or just not great) for bands?

In my experience, the "limited winds" in orchestras (even community orchestras) are MUCH better than the masses of winds in a band. Better tone, intonation, articulations, dynamics... it all just functions better, and makes the work of the tuba a lot more defined. I can relate to this too. The ...

Re: Are some tubas just better (or just not great) for bands?

Most of what MN_Tim said rings true for the community bands I played with in southern MN as well except for one. My hometown had a good mix of the older folks who seemed to have plenty of energy, but a few of them were retired semi-pro/pros. Plus we had a good group of college students who were home ...

Re: If you could only have one...

I’d also say a tuba I sold. The frankentuba similar to a 2341 played beautifully in tune with itself, had a gorgeous tone, and just resonated with me and the way I like to play. Next closest would be the Yamaha E-flat I played my last year in college.

Re: euphonium recommendations for returning player

The Packer is an excellent instrument, I can echo that. Same with the Wessex and Mack Brass euphoniums. They are a good bang for buck choice. If you’re looking for a used horn, Bessons seem to appear with decent frequently. Full disclosure, I’m also selling a Willson 2900L here on the forum, and I’m ...

Not too far from me either. Looks like a nice horn though, will see what Tim hears about it.

Re: Comfort vs Joy

I can relate to this, both amongst instruments and within tubas specifically. Euphonium is still my most proficient instrument, but it’s tuba that brings me more joy to play. For tubas, the first tuba I owned was a frankentuba from Tabor nearly 6 years ago. I stupidly traded that for a 186 clone, ...

Re: 2021 Musical New Year's Resolutions...

I feel indecisive and dumb, but going back to tuba. I played euph this last year, and I miss tuba much more than I expected to. So hopefully once my current euph gets sold, I can pick up a tuba (again) This is probably the third time I’ve felt this urge in 6 or so years. I really should just learn t ...

For anyone else who spends time on Werden’s euph forum, is it down for you too right now?
