Re: Best do-it-all CC tuba that isn't 186/188
Isn't the 3225 just a GR41/PT606P with their standard valveset (and sure, other stuff)? That's not where I'd start if making a new CC, 2155 existing or not.

Re: Best do-it-all CC tuba that isn't 186/188
2157 had 45slp pipe and larger 480 mm/18.9" bell. Funny that the Thor also went from 450 to 480 mm in the bell department.
I like the 2145 as well, but given the criteria (and the fact Mr. Neilan is forcing us to exclude "the answer" for
), the 4/4 yorkophone got my vote.

I guess that could also be described as a 52J but
Original/not Melton Howard Johnson Mahillon
One of those mid-sized Conn BBb's (medium height, 18" bell, curly leadpipe, bloke sold one a while back)

Not quite apples to apples (maybe not even apples to oranges), but can the comparison be made with the difference between the YBB-103 and YBB-621?

Iirc, Kalashen was an import/store name out of NY. There were others besides B&F (also iirc), but that's the one that comes to mind with Kalashen.

Would lacquer have been better? I know how much you hate silver plate

Re: Tuba Tuesday: Buescher, E flat tuba, 3 piston, 1890.
Think they tried to make a very small tuba more ergonomically friendly by putting the pistons far away. Makes sense (first valve slide is "there") but it looks weird enough to talk about on a forum 130 years after the fact :teeth: The ports are pretty weird/cool too. Kind of reminds me of ...

I have the bigger version of the one posted that's been sitting in a spare room for years now. 18.8"ish bell, 1923. Should probably Craigslist it or post it here, but it has better intonation than the horn it was sold with: a Conn Giant Eb

Re: Guaging interest Kalison DS
Having owned a good DS and 4345P, they don't strike me as very similar. Gross oversimplification but (imho) the 4345P plays smaller than it looks and the DS plays bigger than it looks. I mean both of those comparisons in (mostly) good ways. I remember the most problematic part of my DS was one of th...

$800. Only remember that because I really considered making the drive, but a 3 valve CC would inevitably lead to a 5 valve CC ![Eyes :eyes:](./images/smilies/e21531.gif)
