Weirdest thing about owning a PT6 was the number of people (ones I never associated with a PT6 before) I got to lend it to. Not sure if mine was hand hammered (certainly wasn't newer), but I wouldn't mind finding another eventually.

Switched to lacquer because: - I personally don't care how the finish looks if the horn is dent free, not hacked up, etc., BUT - Non-musicians/Non-tuba players I've known have only voiced concerns when finish has been inconsistent (splotchy) Ex: Silver/Lacquer: "Wow, that one's pretty/shiny." Also, I'd imagine most Ebs sold are compensating, classic 3+1 and 983. 4+1 Eb is a small market for sure.

There were definitely a few Alexander tubas made from nickel silver. tuben from the old forum (gone, is he here?) used to talk about his and the history of the horns. I remember reading (maybe bloke?) some of the old American horns were so heavily plated that they didn't even finish the brass under the silver. The silver was heavy enough to just buff shiny after the fact.
