Re: York Tuba, sister horn to “the” York

Ignoring the silver loss. I like how it looked before the mods better. Had a really tidy look with the valves basically centered in the bugle and equal-ish slide lengths above and below. Curtis one is similarly handsome. Looking at it (PT-606P progenitor) again, isn't the curlycue slide the 4th ...

Re: York Tuba, sister horn to “the” York

I agree with both points about the 5th valve. Cool, but I couldn't possibly do more than $2401 (to outbid Matt). Wonder if this is what B&S based the PT-606P on. The bell shape seems similar. Supposedly it was this one they copied: Original: http://forums.chisham.com/viewtopic.php?p=322468#p322468 ...

Re: like a rock

Agreed that B&S/MW needs to keep its brand relevant as Eastman and others go after that market.
Maybe another horn with the same 3 loop CC bugle + copy paste piston set will widen the gap.

Re: like a rock

If I understand correctly:
- donn did the numbers right
- bloke isn't commenting whether 17k now is a good/bad deal, rather saying that buying a yorkophone a few years ago (pick a price) sucks in hindsight due to their selling cost now giving you much less buying power vs then

Need to order some polish then. Seemed obvious but you never know...

Selling mps, would you rather see...

I have a number of mouthpieces that need to go that haven't been used in a few (several?) years. I assume folks would rather see them polished and shiny instead of tarnished (some look more like "was that in a fire?"), but maybe I'm missing something. Has the "rustic" look extended to mouthpieces?

Re: Gene Pokorny - Ashokan Farewell

Did something very similar. I kind of butchered it, but people aren't allowed to point things out like that at a service :facepalm2:

Unrelated to the music, it's interesting to see some patches on the York. I wonder if they're "just cosmetic." Maybe they even improve the tone

Gene Pokorny - Ashokan Farewell

The first time I heard this song, it was also by Gene in an old youtube video (still there). I like it :tuba:

Re: Nirschl York for sale or trade

I'm not sure anyone has ever owned and later sold as many nice tubas as Matt. Definitely a name to remember if you're in or planning to be in the market.

Did Walter Nirschl switch to solid metal buttons, or are those aftermarket?

If you've ever wanted to own a Thein, here's your chance (probably the closest most of us will ever get).

Just making sure my eyes weren't deceiving me. Seemed odd given the instrument is in such great shape.

Would the modified ones be called MAW rotors or normal rotors? Maybe bloke rotors?

I'll go a step further than bort: you should throw that horn in the trash (tell me which dumpster for verification purposes) and get a new one

Re: 1933 large bore King + 1926 Buescher (19" recording bell)

I remember reading (possibly from bloke) that bottom bows were like that because they were shared with the sousaphones.
