Re: 6/4 glut

Now it's the Eastman 836 and Laskey 30H. I think the generic US university tuba studio has been producing a lot of really woofy and indistinct players for many years now. On a personal note, I remember going to an audition where all these young guys showed up with 2165s. It was hilarious. Listening ...

Re: cutting Fat Bastard down to size (new posts/pictures Nov. 22)

[contraption photos] This sort of reminds me of how on my old PT-6, it came with a slide extender for the 5th valve to turn it from a flat whole step to a two-step combo. The extended slide faced downward behind the instrument and went all the way down to about the fourth valve. (What happened to ...

Re: FS: MW 182

Haha, nope. My Eb is way easier to play down low than that 182. It's a really fine up-high solo tuba and I had great fun with it playing low horn parts (same fingering, for you read-by-fingering folks.) I haven't had any issues with the low register, but I've been playing on German rotary f tubas ...

I think this is a copy of the newer MR. P f tuba, which is a good instrument.

Mary Ann wrote: Tue Dec 13, 2022 11:34 am MW 182 was my first tuba, and it definitely "sounds like" a tuba despite its size. If I didn't have my Eb I'd have been interested. But then again, I have someone who wants my Eb --- um, nah.

Re: Very small F tuba

matt g wrote: Mon Oct 31, 2022 12:54 pm A Melton/Meinl-Weston 182 seems to be about as small as one can make an F tuba without tons of compromises.

There’s also the Wessex copy of that old British F tuba. No idea about that.
I have a MW182, and I would say it does not fit the desired sound profile for this person's use case.

SOLD: PT15S -price drop-

The instrument is in great shape. There are a few small spots where the silver is worn from repairs done by the previous owner. I have used this instrument in orchestras and recitals. The intonation is great, and the low C is not an issue for me on this one. I have installed a main tuning slide ...

A little off-topic but, what's the vibe on this model? I haven't seen one at a conference or in the wild to try one but I have had more than one student ask about it.

Not FS: MW 182 (traded)

MW 182, 3/4, 5 rotary valve, F tuba for sale It’s in beautiful shape, has a bag, and plays nicely. It's in mechanically perfect condition. There’s a small ding in the bell and a few minor scratches. The low c and b are not problems. Intonation is stellar; I hardly ever use my tuning trigger. I've use ...

Normally I don't like to put an instrument under the plane but sometimes options are limited when a university is flying you out for an audition.
