Re: Don't Fall For It!

The most frustrating part is no matter how many times you report this obvious fraud to Facebook, they refuse to block it, saying "We’ve taken a look and found that this ad doesn’t go against our Advertising Standards."

Re: Returning Player Advice

Here's a blunt suggestion which is only meant as a sincere helpful suggestion: If you actually do have a mustache, I would encourage you to either choose the mustache or choose tuba playing. People will read my post here and argue against it and contradict it. Whatever. :eyes: Agree 100%. My low ra...

Re: Advice on tuba purchase...

Went to visit a local tuba paler/seller today. Has an older somewhat used Yamaha YBB201SS for sale at 2k w/ new case and mouthpiece. Very nice and tuba-wise individual. Can pay and pick up. Any thoughts or advice? I'd say keep looking. If your heart's set on a YBB201 then they can be had cheaper. C...

Re: 2 Schiller Tuba Questions

(snip) I've owned maybe 3 or 4 of these over the years and in my experience, the rotary valve linkage has consistently been bad-to-mediocre. (snip) I always tell people my 410 came with it's own percussion section. I really don't understand why anyone would make a decent tuba then fit them with bal...

Re: ergonomics and 6/4 piston "York"-style C tubas

I've tried all sorts of ways to hold it. When it's on my left thigh, the valves seem a mile away. But you must be aware, I am seriously short for my weight so that might be a factor. I usually have it on the same stand that I put my BBb on (VMI 3302) and that seems to be the best but it's still not ...

That's how I have to hold my JP377. Drives me nuts. Too bad - it's a great horn otherwise.

(snip) EVEN THOUGH a regular piano bench is too wide (to comfortably sit on it SIDEWAYS and rest the tuba on the bench itself - in front of you - you might TEST a piano bench and - if that hints at a solution - you might (??) consider doing that I've done (to play my 98). (snip) The other night at ...

Re: Wrong notes in Community Band

So I sit next to a retiree whose playing has degraded to pretty badly but he is almost always present, is nice to talk to and is probably the best grandfather in the world for his autistic grandson (starting trombone) and support for his daughter (great saxplayer). So what to do, tell him off every...

Re: Wrong notes in Community Band

I have found it useful to; when I hear the issue during rehearsal, bring it to the directors attention by asking if there is a misprint in the score/parts. Then they look for it and address the issue without calling anybody out.. Sent from my SM-S367VL using Tapatalk This particular instance is ind...

Wrong notes in Community Band

Folks - I have an issue that I don't really know quite how to address. The community band that I play in is a decent one, but far too often wrong notes in other sections get cemented early on in a concert cycle and make it into concerts. I am blessed/cursed with well above average ears and I can dis...

I needed one several years ago.

I called.

He sent.

It fit.

My thoughts exactly. Way too much weight on the bell side.

Re: Miraclone 186 tuning slide too short

Yes. I had the B210 variety. Interesting - how much did it run you? And - did it fit? It fit, he sent it to me at no charge and it corrected the sharpness. I had also bought the tuba from him just several weeks prior so YMMV. Yeah, it's been a while. I will try to get hold of him. Thanks!

Re: Miraclone 186 tuning slide too short

That's interesting, because I mostly drop-ship those tubas and don't recall working on any of them, other than maybe one or two early ones that had fourth valve circuits that were too long - a problem that they fixed at the factory, not long after... but there are lots of things that I don't rememb...

Re: Miraclone 186 tuning slide too short

Do you have a local guy who has the ability to disassemble the the five components of your main tuning slide, put it back together with some substitute components, shine it up, and shoot some rattle can lacquer on it? When I do this I will probably use Mark Metzler in Elkhart IN. I don't know him p...
