Re: F cimbasso resentment from B-flat bass trombonists.

I always maintained that a REAL bass trombone is in G, F or E-flat. The thing that players CALL a bass trombone, really is a large TENOR trombone with extra tubing. I thing the ideal sonic bridge between the tenors and the tuba, is a g/f bass.

My 2¢ worth.

Re: Trumpet studies on tuba

I started with "Top Tones" for trumpet in the early 70s. In college, I went through both Clarke books, & transferred to the TRUMPET/CORNET Arban's. Concone, Vizzutti, Reynolds (both horn & trumpet) were all added in. I did the horn Kopprasch before I saw the tuba version.

Re: Rudolf Meinl Tuba review

I've ALWAYS loved RMs. I played my first one (silver, 4/4 CC) in 1973 at Custom Music. As a poor college student, simply I could not afford the $1,500 entry fee; laughable by modern standards. Over the years I played a few more. I had a 4/4, 4 valve CC, onto which Larry Minick grafted a Mirafone 185 ...

Re: American in Paris (et al) - first rehearsal

That AiP solo has to be played on a BBb or CC. It has to be big, warm, broad and beautiful. A bass simply does not have the depth of a contra.

Re: Ya know ....

Tim Jackson If I have to perform that note, I do a LOT of low note playing, ie Rochuts 15vb,for a couple weeks before that. I do it on an empty stomach (no eating before hand) and using the "Tommy Johnson, one lip" approach, it pops right out. Watch how Fenstermacher does it, he's an EXPERT!!!

Re: Ya know ....

tokuno You ever attended a Yankees World Series game? No, the tickets were always WAY to expensive. Where do you like to bat in the lineup? Lead off. I know my strike zone so get lots of walks. In my younger days, I was pretty fast so the SB thing was a joy for me. Your preferred fielding position ...
