What’s the story on Wurzbach tubas, and what would be an acceptable price for this horn?

Re: cimbasso trombone
The cavalry valve trombone of yesteryear immediately comes to mind, but I haven’t seen one in rotary. The closest you can get with a modern instrument is possibly with a Miraphone or Cerveny.

Tuba-Shipping Tips?
Greetings, fellow tubists! I may be shipping a tuba soon, and am wondering if anyone has a recommendation for an easily available box and packing material. When I used to play and ship trombones often, I would use the tried and true U-Haul lamp box; but having never shipped a tuba, I don’t know if s ...

Re: NEW mobile bird bath news....
…The big issue that I have from using plastic/fiberglass bells is that I can't hear myself nearly as well as with a metal bell. I'd expect that to be similar with CF bells. Having previously owned a Butler C-12 Bass Trombone with a detachable flare, this is VERY true of carbon fiber bells. The f ...

I’m still searching for a Conn 2 tuba mouthpiece in comfortable+ condition. Let me know if you have one or know of one for sale.
Thanks!

Re: heading out on a day trip to
Thanks, for the great review! I’m with you, on the alternate fingerings, and that’s one reason I find the compensating systems to be appealing. Alas, I lack the fortitude for a big heavy tuba, and the funds for something fancy like a compensating BBb.
Keep doing the good work, sir!

Re: Learning! My Pan-American Disassembly/Reassembly Thread
IIRC, there is a study that mentions something about expert status and 10,000 hours. There is definitely truth in skill increasing with effort invested, and I can only imagine with something like 10,000 hours on a task an individual would be proficient, at a minimum.
Keep up the effort, OP!

WTB: Conn 2 mouthpiece
I am looking for a Conn 2 mouthpiece to match up with a 1971 Conn 4J BBb tuba I just purchased. Cosmetics are unimportant, as long as the shank is round and the rim is free of trauma/scratches. I’m hoping some of our resident repairmen might have a spare in a drawer somewhere. Let me know what you’v ...

Self-Led Tuba Studies?
A lot of the “beginner” books tend to be more band/ensemble focused. Are there recommendations for a solid book of tuba studies for a self-led tuba “beginner”, who has experience on brass and reading in multiple clefs? Possibly something in the public domain, that might be downloadable, so a guy coul ...

Re: Adult “Beginner” Mouthpiece?
With a great many suggestions to stick with a known-good mouthpiece model, I put an order in for a lexan Kellyberg that should arrive today. The price was easy enough to handle, and shipping was quick. On a related note, I also picked up a Conn 4J that had spent a moment in Lee Stofer’s shop. I will ...

Re: Buzzing exercises
Just a curiosity... … So why is tuba different? It can't just be mouthpiece size... can it? Arnold Jacobs’s Tuba Studies begins with a full page of exercises intended to be buzzed on the mouthpiece alone. I can’t answer your question, out of lack of experience, but just thought I’d offer that observ ...

Re: Don't try to understand 'em; Just rope an' throw an' brand 'em
I’m really a bit in shock about the state of these instruments/posts. I remember being taught to respect and be a steward of items I didn’t directly own.
