One of the more odd things I've played . . . we did a first read of "Symphony #1 in Memoriam Dresden 1945" last night . . .

Re: 186 to repair in one week

Perhaps we have revealed evidence that the Germans, ever practical as they can be, came up with a "Young Scholars" parts line, made from 70 percent "normal" brass alloyed with 30 percent old Panzer armor.

Two birds, one stone!

(Oh, and the mouthpiece "wobble" was pretty minor to begin ...

Re: 186 to repair in one week

950 miles, actually, but close enough for either horseshoes or hand grenades.

Ironically, with this trip, cost me about 100 more miles that we would have gone anyhow. Milwaukee/Chicago (likely next closest - we make Williston look outright "urban" in terms of proximity to anything "large ...

Re: New classification of instrument that I learned about just today on Facebook

When somebody says they play the recorder, I would probably ask them whether it's tape or digital.

Ironically, back in 6th grade music (in classroom, 1 hr a week or so), they presented us with "recorders" . . . My Dad had just gotten a pretty nice tape recorder, and I was amazed (albeit briefly ...

Re: 186 to repair in one week

The only thing I can think of that we discussed that I didn't see mentioned was that tiny ding in the receiver that fights with solidly seating the mouthpiece.

And glad to see that not everything is a disaster area to work on!

I also tend to believe the same things about electric bass guitars that I do about mouthpieces... How much mass, how much weight, the type of material (whether a particular type of wood, or plastic, or even sometimes metal) I don't believe makes much difference at all (though the overwhelming ...

Brought it up in the car as well (while still travelling), but can't hear much on tablet speakers. Beautiful space! Hoping to find a recording as well.

Re: 186 to repair in one week

I'll officially "out" myself as the owner of this project 186.

I bought this after not playing for 34 years, and not wanting to sink a lot of $$$ in a horn until I knew how well I was going to do, but (even in this condition) I have grown fond of this horn. (And none of the issues found were made ...

Re: Where are you playing on Mardi Gras?

Unfortuately, the Harbor Freight website doesn't show any rawhide mallets or rawhide hammers, so you may be out of luck, but there are plenty of other toys to choose from.

Oh well, if I cleaned up I'd probably find a couple that I forgot that I had. I have one large one and one small one that ...
