Re: Temporarily switching from BBb to Eb

As for Eb treble clef, some make the transition seamlessly and others for some reason cannot change the key signature in their heads, nor interpret natural signs as flats or sharp signs as naturals, on three notes. I enlightened one confused fellow in about three minutes a few years ago, and know ...

Does "two-tone finish" mean yellow brass with nickel silver?

Re: IMPROVED HORN-TUBA CHRISTMAS DUET BOOK

These look fun. They're also loads better than just playing two parts from the Salvation Army mix-and-match Christmas songs set. I think I still have your paypal around here somewhere.... Now I'm wishing I'd seen the first versions. My daughter hasn't complained about horn range for the Pandemic ...

Re: Temporarily switching from BBb to Eb

... You have, of course, checked that the community band uses bass clef (rather than transposed treble clef) for its Tuba parts … Is it true that brass bands will most likely use Eb treble clef parts, but that a wind ensemble might use bass clef? Either way, it should be easy enough to transpose, ...

Re: EDUCATE ME! (ECB632)

I can't say anything about the Eastmans, but the last time I tried a '70s CC 186 it was so delightfully light and easy that it left an impression. So I'll be watching for the sale (which I shouldn't, since I have a perfectly fine old 188, but, ... you know how it is).

Should I dangle an ‘80s 188?

Tell me next time you're in Austin and I'll bring it by for you to try out. It has a bigger, deeper sound than the 186 (besides being easier to hold standing up).

I have a couple of great boxes now, and UPS ground to most of the U.S. should be under $350.

I just sold a 4V CC Scherzer for that price, and it might have been a better deal (for the buyer), since it plays great!

Re: Help Selling a Tuba

The bell is not too huge, so I’m guessing it fits in a UHaul Grand Wardrobe. Be sure to pack it with enough padding (bubble wrap, peanuts, stuff that cushions but holds it shape well) that it doesn’t shift around in the box, and protect the bell.

Re: Quick Horn Rinse (QHR)

Someone I know, recently bought a tuba at a very good price. It was kind of stuffy in the 3rd valve and didn't like to center if the 3rd valve was in use but otherwise was quite nice -- no weird intonation problems, a very open upper register. and a good player. Perfect quintet tuba. One day just a ...

Congratulations! That looks great.

It's good to hear that a new one plays well. Sounds a lot like what I noticed about mine from 1970.

FS: Satin Silver Conn 20K

Here's a 1970 satin silver Conn 20K sousaphone (26" bell, short travel pistons), with neck and two bits. This is in overall nice shape and it works great, but I don't use it and don't feel like I'm about to, so someone else should get a chance to enjoy it. The valves are fast and well aligned. As I ...

Sold: Bloke-restored 1929 Holton euphonium

For sale is the really lovey 1929 Holton euphonium that bloke restored and chronicled in this topic . It's still excellent, but I haven't played it outside the house in the three years I've had it, and I'm not a collector, so it's time for someone else to get a turn. When he restored it, Joe was ...
