Re: pitch level vs. utility bills
*As I choose to play C below the staff (on the huge B-flat tuba) with valves 1&3 - so as to enjoy better tuning on B-natural 2&4, my wildest tuning move is to move the first valve slide out the better part of 3 inches (for that C) to all the way in for the C an octave higher... On this new-to-me ...

Re: prices of necks and tuning bits: Just pay for them, and be done with it.
So, …. if I sell a sousaphone, I should add $400 for the neck and two bits that fit and are all in good condition?

Re: Serpent and ophicleide on Berlioz
We can discuss instruments all day long, but the REAL takeaway from that video is how wrong-@$$ so many tuba players (particularly since the later 1970's - when so many of us decided to turn up the volume to 11 - when playing with orchestras) have played those parts, how "less is more", and all ...

Why is this Conn sousaphone so easy to play?
I have a 1970 silver Conn 20k. A big BBb sousaphone. It’s been around the house for a very long time, I mostly ignore it, and I haven’t used it for any gigs in 10 years. So it’s on my list of things I should get rid of but haven’t quite got around to it. When bloke ditched his C tubas to go all in wi ...

Re: Tuba/sousaphone mouthpiece
There should be a model number, like 18 or 24, on the side of the mouthpiece, that will be useful information to a buyer.
Or maybe it just says "Classic Tuba Sousaphone", and I don't know what I'm talking about.

Free: medium size hard case
The buyer of the Scherzer CC tuba didn't want the hard case. It's too small for my other tubas, and I don't want to store it, so it's free to a good home. It should fit something about the size of a PT-10 or Symphonie or Miraphone F. The tuba that was with it is 38.5" tall with a 16.5" (420mm) bell ...

Re: leather tuba bag color choice question
A great tuba that I bought a couple years ago came with a beautiful perfectly fitted leather bag. I sold the bag straight away so that someone else would have the honor of getting it all scraped up.

Re: BBb vs. CC debate continued
I am playing at the Great American Brass Band Festival this week on a tiny little German four rotary valve Eb tuba, and I am so used to a tiny little rotary tuba being F that I am inadvertently reverting to F fingers on some notes. Pencil, pencil, pencil! All my tubas, in three keys, are now little ...

Re: BBb vs. CC debate continued
I'm surprised nobody had complicated philosophy to suggest about this.
Seems like I don't do this when I pick up a tuba at home, but I do at band rehearsal, maybe because the trumpets and trombones already set an ambience.

Looks like a B&S model 102. Imported to the USA under various names like Meister Gerhard Schneider and Giardinelli. Does yours have an engraving? Jake Kline's blog post here features a pic of a five valve Symphonie model: https://brassandpipes.wordpress.com/2020/03/23/ca-1984-bs-bbb-model-102 ...

Re: Texas Brass Fest 2024
One more thing: this is your last chance to see Mikelynch play with the Austin Brass Band. Mike was helpful, generous, and welcoming when I stomped in three years ago with my little C tuba to play Eb parts, and it’s sad to say farewell. I learned a lot from Mike (including how to avoid getting an Eb ...

Re: Texas Brass Fest 2024
This weekend! Looks like the weather will be okay. I wish I could say there's an option to watch online, but pretty sure there's not. There will be some small ensembles outdoors between bands, for ambience. I'll be in my first ever tuba quartet. I love small groups/chamber music, but the last time I ...

This sold quickly this time. I’m happy to see it go from a closet to someone who’s going to play it.
Now I just need to find someone who wants the adorable Scherzer CC the same way.

Re: SOLD B&S BBb Tuba for sale model 103 Symphonie
Regarding bag size, the Miraphone "medium to large BBb and CC" bag should also fit, except maybe those with bell larger than 450mm (?).
This particular 103 turns out to be really nice. Just as Jake promised: "plays fantastic."
