Re: fads

I’d have already got Wade’s amazing 186 if I didn’t already have a great early 188 that I’d have to get rid of.

Re: For sale: B&S Goldbrass Baritone

How is this still here?! I sorted out my trombone situation (thanks to some nice folks here), and I already have F and BBb Symphonie sizes, so … maybe I’ll wait just a little longer to give a chance to someone who really needs it. Seriously, for anyone in North America interested in this, Th ...

Re: Professional Silver Nickel Euphonium C/Bb. Four Smooth Rotary Valves with Case

Looks kind of fun. Is “heavy gauge” brass a good thing?

Re: Where to try out new Tubas?

I liked the Gnagey a lot when I tried it at NABBA last spring. One thing that stood out about all the Wessex tubas was that they were a lot heavier than I’m used to. Very sturdy feeling.

Now I feel less like I overcharged for the 186 BBb I sold last year.

Re: Tuba Intonation - Rant

Seems like it must be a fundamentally hard problem.

On the other hand, my pair of forty year old East German tubas come pretty close to being right on.

Is the fifth valve loop a little short? Or is it wider and I’m just not used to that look?

Re: Trombone doubler question: flat 5th partials?

Just as with tubas, there are models of trombones whereby pitches behave themselves more nicely within positions and fewer micro-positions are required by their players. I've talked to quite a few trombone players about this stuff, and - to a man - they all agree that it's tremendously more easy to ...

Re: Traded: Satin Silver Conn 20K

To wrap this up, Tony sent me a practically perfect late ’70s Bach 36B that I’ll enjoy. We probably both think we came out ahead in this deal, which is how trades should work.

... What I found most challenging is that I'm filling a different voice in the group listening to and countering my home base. It's strange. ... I'm playing trombone this cycle, and I love getting to play inside the chords rather than (almost) always under them. It's fresh and fun. And that's just ...

Re: bloke's (rude as hell) selling tips

Players who are sponsored by makers will sell instruments if they change sponsors. In that case, the one they are selling is the best example they could get of that model while they were playing it. I have a wonderful tuba thanks to the previous owner being a sponsored artist. Lucky me ...

Oboe literature on F tuba. Sits incredibly well.
Just taken down two octaves? Or played with "trumpet fingerings" so oboe C4 is tuba F2?

This is still available.

I'm mostly not interested in tuba trades, but a good solid F-attachment trombone or nice Symphonie F tuba might work.

Somebody should buy this so I stop being tempted. And I should buy a trombone first, anyway.

For anyone in the U.S. interested in this, TheBerlinerTuba makes the shipping very convenient.

You're saying 102 because it's too old to be a 3103? For that age, how do you tell between 102 and 103?
