Looks kind of fun. Is “heavy gauge” brass a good thing?

I liked the Gnagey a lot when I tried it at NABBA last spring. One thing that stood out about all the Wessex tubas was that they were a lot heavier than I’m used to. Very sturdy feeling.

stepped mouthpipes..."the dent"...Pocket Rocket...removing braces...adding braces...releasing tension...rings to slip over mouthpiece shanks...can-shaped mouthpieces with almost no material removed from the 2" stock...all rotors rotating in the same direction...gimmick spit valves...removing spit ...

Now I feel less like I overcharged for the 186 BBb I sold last year.

Seems like it must be a fundamentally hard problem.

On the other hand, my pair of forty year old East German tubas come pretty close to being right on.

Just as with tubas, there are models of trombones whereby pitches behave themselves more nicely within positions and fewer micro-positions are required by their players. Players who are sponsored by makers will sell instruments if they change sponsors. In that case, the one they are selling is the best example they could get of that model while they were playing it. I have a wonderful tuba thanks to the previous owner being a sponsored artist. Lucky me ...
