Re: Lots of music here
Thanks for the link Ace. Lots of good music here! Steve, how is your family holding up with the fierce heat down there in Lake Havasu? I grew up in the Riverside/ Corona CA area and it was 117 degrees there yesterday, and 121 degrees in Los Angeles County's Woodland Hills district. Here in Berkeley ...

Lots of music here
Here's a wonderful site that I think all of you will enjoy and book mark for future listening. As a former military bandsman, I was thrilled to find this long list of band music.

>> but I've also admitted that I never ~GREASE~ any slides on any tubas, and only ~OIL~ slides on my tubas... ' anyone else, here, like me, in all these respects...?? [/quote] I stopped the slide-greasing on all my instruments several years ago. Since then, it has been oil only. Ace

What tuba is this?
Here's a video of a small ensemble in the Army's 4th Infantry Division. Anyone know what kind of tuba is playing?

Re: business proposition
I saw a tuba that I really like, but really don't want to shell out the cash for it, right now. If one of you buys it for me - and lets me keep it for just one year, I'll agree to sell it back to you for $100 less than you originally paid. :teeth: Uh, Joe, have you been sipping a little too much ...

Re: epiphany...
Mark, I am always confused when I see an Amati-badge tuba with rotary valves. I have become accustomed to the Cerveny badge on rotary horns made by the Amati Corp. The Cerveny horns I think are made in a little town east of Prague, and the Amati piston horns made near the German/Czech border. Can ...

Good post, Joe. The horns I have owned that, to me, match your comments are MW 2145 and Conn 52J. I really liked those tubas because of the ease of playing them.

Re: Coffee and practice
Yeah, a cup of coffee helps the body systems to rev up, and that aids practicing. However, I have come across an activity that gets me going at any time, even if tired or sick. That activity is playing my Jupiter three piston valve trombone in C, working on the viola transcriptions of Bach's ...

Re: Seattle CL: Gerhard Schneider CC
Hal, thanks for the link. I had one of those tubas about 15 years ago. One of the richest and most luscious tones I have ever heard. My idea of a true German tuba sound.

Re: Conquering the Pig
Years ago, Florida tubist Jay Bertolet made a few posts about his modified Cerveny 601. One of the mods was a stick-on-the-main. At this point, I suppose it is impossible to get those archives. My memory tells me that he felt the horn absolutely needed a stick to play in tune. But, over all, he ...

Re: jargon
I use souzy because I am too lazy to always be typing out sousaphone. Likewise, in other forums (or would the technically correct Latin plural be "fora") I type Yammy instead of Yamaha, and Ibby instead of Ibanez. In Latin, the plural is "fora", because the noun "forum" follows the second type of ...

Re: Advice on an "Old Man" CC Tuba
At the risk of becoming flame bait, I'd like to ask a serious question about a choice for a new tuba. A little background so you will know why - I will be 70 next year and while I'm still quite active, I will soon be having my 5th surgery in 5 years, knee, colon resection, both shoulders, and now ...
