A nice memory for me was in a local SF Bay area concert band circa 1992. I played with Fennel's wife, Jennifer. Er, she played first horn and I played second horn.

Re: Did they send one to John Williams, too ?
Ever notice that stuffy bureaucrats often use an initial for their first name?
For example, H. Walter Snodgrass. Would any of you do that?

Re: attn junk drawer hoarders: alto horn mouthpiece?
There is an old Eb alto horn for sale near me for very cheap. Before I go get it, what modern mouthpiece fits these? I'd wager the instrument is from the early-mid 20th century. https://i.imgur.com/6JvMrZUl.jpg My old Bach mouthpiece catalog shows five Alto Horn m/p's: #'s 3, 5, 6, 7, and 12. Depth ...

I agree. I think holidays are created largely to stimulate the sale of merchandise.

Those are good Sousaphones, right? $900 seems like a steal.

Add me to the list of dumb ass players who sold their Miraphone 188. Gawd, I wish I had one again.

Wow, Wade------your Army Band experiences are astonishing. That's a record hard to beat. Tough duty. You must miss it. Or, not.

Didn't Get the Coronation Gig?
OK, so we missed out playing the Coronation gig. But, have any of us played for other royalty or big-time political leaders? The closest I have come to royalty was an honor guard in 1960 played by my 21st Army Band for Crown Prince Akihito of Japan and his new bride, Michiko. Any other stories?

Re: almost impossible to program too often
Dvorak 9 is programmed too often, becomes tedious, and this is not only because we have so little to do and so much sitting to do. Even though Brahms Requiem seems to be programmed at least once every other year by some church or some local orchestra or both, it's really difficult to tire of it ...

Re: BMB J-865 6/4 CC $4500
We've always been pretty good for a community orchestra, but if you told us when I joined 9 years ago that we'd be able to pull off Shostakovich 5 (or Tender Land Suite in 3 rehearsals like our last cycle), you would've been laughed out of the building. We definitely have come a long way. Terrific ...

Rick, contrary to some people on this board, I would not refer to you as an "idiot". After reading your post, I am impressed. How about we call you "courageous"?

Re: Shostakovich 5 score?
Mike, I just pulled my copy from old archives. It's a Leed's Study Score, 9" x 6", not pocket size but not full size, either. I blew the dust off and see that I paid $2.50 new. Must have been back in 340 BC. Condition of score is excellent. I know you are seeking a full size score, but if you feel ...

Re: FS: Mack Brass TU-410 CC Tuba W/ Gold Brass Bell $2000
Hi there! I bought this horn new from Mack Brass. It's in nearly perfect condition with no dings. All the valves are fast and quiet, and the slides pull easily. The tuba plays really quite in tune, and has a beautiful, warm sound. Comes with the case shown and I'll throw in a Fergusson Laskey 30G ...

Cerveny makes a nice C/Bb upright euph. Decent C euph, not so good in Bb. Octaves did not line up in Bb with factory provide 12 C m/p. Use of 3G m/p solved the problem for me.

I studied with Floyd for about 4 years while I was in the Air Force Band stationed about 45 minutes from his home. What a great teacher and person. Your band was at Travis Air Force Base? You were very fortunate to be stationed so near Floyd Cooley's home----less than an hour's drive. He was a good ...
