Re: Eastman CC tubas
Got to test one in January (feels like a lifetime ago). Hard to say anything definitive in a few minutes but the response was good and noob intonation was very good. The tone was slightly warmer than whatever ethereal expectation I'd put in my own head. Nice tuba. Band here will be putting in an ...

If my wife wouldn't divorce me, I'd have bought it the day he posted it.
I'm currently at the rationalisation stage of "Well, 50% of marriages end in divorce anyway, so, hey..."

Re: Silver plating
Sampling to approach some level of statistical rigor won’t happen. Using a trumpet robot on expertly crafted trumpets of different coatings and variations of brass and silver to a blind audience of sufficient size, variety, and lack of influence would simply deny the argument. Fair. It'll never be p ...

Re: Wessex Mahler VS Wessex Anton
Well, they were in no mood to do anything for me. Long thread over at Werden's about the Sinfonico euph. And the worst of it was that the sharpness is a known issue. We get what we pay for, and they reap what they sew: not to get into politics but the government is sloshing around a lot of culture ...

Almost certainly will be.
They sent me a lemon euph and I had to eat return shipping... the magically-round number of $US 200.

Re: Favorite Valve oil for pistons?
I wrote Matt the other day and tried to get to check out this thread. I'm considering ordering the large jug. I wish I could find a small bottle locally before I did that Matt wrote me--there had been some confusion on his mail server. Claim is that shipping to Canada is more expensive during ...

Re: The tuba, disability, and back problems.
One piece of advice re PT/OT: if you're doing physiotherapy/contemplating it, bring your instrument to the assessment session(s). Physios are very goal oriented. Some of them can't tell a tuba from an oboe, but if you say 'I need to be able to do [X] with this instrument' they can focus on building ...

Actually I think some of those stories would be awesome, names redacted if necessary.
An interesting theory about shooing away non-buyers. Had not thought of that.

Have not seen the jugs at ACB.
On the resilience site, 1.25 oz is $8, but a whopping 32 oz, which would last at least most of the weekend, is only $40.

Re: really nice competitively priced new and used band instruments for your beginner kids
Aside from scaring off Sandinista customers with the Contra Alto Clarinets, you've put off a shy fool like me who just wants to browse an inventory list that hopefully has pictures without having to deal with salespeople. If it's working out for you, and the website would be more hassle than it's ...

Re: Favorite Valve oil for pistons?
I'm annoyed with Resilience.
There's no option onsite to ship to Canada.
It is so much cheaper to buy a jug from them, than 1.25 oz at retail.
I have e-mailed them three times, never even gotten the courtesy of an answer.

Just loved my Willson 2975 Euph.
They are making them again but the list is $11K.
I believe the expression over there is "No money? no Swiss."

I have not seen Lidl on this side of the pond. Not saying it's not here, just that I haven't seen it. The Horn Guys in California usually have a couple in stock when I visit their website fwiw Thanks. They do have a 702 listed, $3200, built to order, 90 days. They also have a useful write-up. I ...
