Re: Converting clockspring rotory paddles to regular spring paddles

Thanks for the updates.

These are Cerveny clocksprings - not Miraphone.

My thought is to replace the whole bridge and arms. I don't want to disassemble it.

Mike Nye repair adjusted the levers and advised me to look for replacement parts.

I will get pictures of before and after.

Re: Converting clockspring rotory paddles to regular spring paddles

Thank you for the replies. My issue is that there is play in the clocksprings and they occasionally stick. The only shop here that can adjust them has advised they had too much side to side play and would need to be replaced at some point. I was looking to see if it was worth it to do this and if an...

Thanks for the update. I was interested if it did not sell. Sorry I did not see the other topic on it. It came out nice.

Good job.

Converting clockspring rotory paddles to regular spring paddles

Hi All, I have an older Cerveny 601 Kaiser tuba with clocksprings on the finger paddles. All the dents are out of it. it has some repair scarring. Lacquer is 50%. Is it worth converting to regular springs on the paddles? Does anyone have the bridge, paddles, springs, and arms from a Miraphone or Cer...

Re: attic Cerveny 681 quick fix up to sell to a church...

... but I don't have the go ahead yet from the church, even though it's well within their stated budget. It's shiny, and not all that beat up. I'd love to get it sold, particularly since it's on the same route as two other places I need to go that are 1-1/2 hours and 2 hours away, respectively. Cro...

Re: OFFICIAL LIST of Tuba repair/overhauls/restoration

Mike Nye in Tempe, AZ. Worked on my tubas and euphoniums. http://www.nyerepair.com However, other than having an ultrasound setup, they do not appear to have anyone who is a "brass person." Mike himself worked on my tubas and euphoniums. He does not do major dent work that involves taking...

Re: Short play test of Eastman and Jupiter BBb/CC tubas

Let me know how that turns out. Locally I've had some disastrous results with music stores. I just got the tuba back and they did really nice work. The dents have been removed and the valve actions is good. They even removed the little fin from the bow so it sits better. It came in at cost and on t...

Re: Short play test of Eastman and Jupiter BBb/CC tubas

I didn't realize there was that kind of music store in the Phx area. (Tucson here, just a couple hours to drive there on a day that is NOT HOT.) I played that Eastman CC model a couple weeks ago here; too big for me to haul around but not difficult to play. Is that store capable of doing things lik...

Short play test of Eastman and Jupiter BBb/CC tubas

A few days ago I took a trip to Milano's Music in Mesa, AZ. My Cerveny 601 BBb tuba needs some dent work and my rotors were sluggish. While I was there I played three tubas tubas - two Eastman and one Jupiter tuba piston valve tubas. They did not have the rotor versions in stock. The sales people we...

Re: storage stands

I use the Hercules stand. It is much more stable than other tuba stands I have tried. It keeps my tuba out of the way and it has a tripod design but easy for me to take out and practice.

Re: Who played tuba on the movie Eight Men Out

Movie is from 1988, about the 1918 Chicago White(black) socks throwing the world series. Impeccable style, groove, and sound throughout the whole band. It sounds like Vince Giordano to me. If you haven't seen/heard the movie it's definitely worth a watch/ listen. Ed According to this site https://w...

Re: TROLL ALERT: orchestra concert wear trends

I think that wearing tails, tux, or a suit to perform is outdated. Especially due to the physical nature of playing an instrument. Because before WWII few venues were air conditioned. And now nearly all are. :facepalm2: Actually I live in Phoenix, Az and the heat is an issue. I don't like tux or su...

A donation of 20 rare brass instruments to Northwest College

This showed up in my Google News feed. Nice story. POWELL — A donation of 20 rare brass instruments to Northwest College may bring a new sound to the Trapper music department. The tubas, helicons and sousaphones — some more than 130 years old — are a gift that will continue to give to the Powell com...

Thanks I enjoyed it. I noticed the trombone player doubles on a 3 valve non compensating euphonium. Sounds good on it too.
