Re: Conn 20J

First tuba I owned was a Conn 20j from the 50's. The tuning bit made it better and I played it with the Helleberg 120s (recommended by Roger who is now with Miraphone when he was WWBW). Played well. Would get the four valve. Got all the dents out and sold it. Enjoyed it. Highly recommend especially ...

Re: Tuba stand

This might be an option if you cannot find the seat option. This is the Wessex tuba stand. I do not have one but it appears to be the smallest in diameter at 9".

As a member of the Board of Directors of HPF, and the typesetter for the more recent songbooks, I politely request that you order music direct from HPF. As another post pointed out, the proceeds are used for good purposes. Despite any advice to use xerox copies, it's copyrighted material-a "do...

Re: Riddle me This...

I was playing euphonium when Mike Nye advertised a Cerveny 601 four rotor BBb. My previous tubas were a Conn 20J, Mirafone 186, Mirafone 186 with a recording bell. So I went to try it and have never played a Kaiser tuba. To my surprise it was easy to blow and would not break part. The mouthpieces I ...

Re: Mirafone Recording Bell Tuba Case

I had one but it fell apart. It was not built well and used very thin wood. Could not even keep together with duct tape. Used the smallest nails I have ever seen.

Bloke's suggestion is the best.

Thank you for the replies. I thought it might be a 601 from the 60s. I enjoy how it plays.

Cerveny BBb - help with model and age

Hello all. A few weeks ago I walked into Mike Nye's Instrument shop because he had a Cerveny tuba. I went to see it as I have never seen one in person. It is a 5/4 BBb four rotar tuba. Once I played it I knew I liked it a lot. Today I purchased it for a good deal. It has dents and scratches but play...

Re: POLL: pricing/condition choices for a Yamaha 321 euphonium

I think it broadens the market to have a uniform finish - whether it is all stripped or all stripped and polished. Middle or high schoolers will be much more apt to choose on in that respect. I had an older Besson Euphonium that played well but the lacquer was uneven. I chose to have the lacquer str...

Re: POLL: Willson 2900 euphonium finish

Keep the patina or go satin lacquer. I had an older Besson which I had stripped for a satin finish. Sold it when I tried tuba again. I am back to a lacquer euphonium.

Apparently Eddie Van Halen heavily modified his guitars. So much so that Popular Mechanics wrote about it.

Twoba?

Found this today: https://www.lastrowmusic.com/twoba-a-hungarian-innovation-to-support-tuba-soloists/ "Finally, based on the tuba player’s ideas, Golden-laureate instrument maker Zoltán Juhász has developed a new piston system that reforms the holding position of the instrument so that the play...

I found a Yamaha dual trigger for $1200. I know it is out of your range but they might negotiate.
